Trump says he wants to 'wind down' Iran war as he claims US is close to destroying ALL of Tehran's military capabilities... and reveals plan for the future of the crucial Strait of Hormuz

Donald Trump has said he is considering winding down the strikes on Iran and ending the war in the Middle East, as he gets one step closer to destroying Tehran's military capabilities.

The president wrote in a Truth Social on Friday evening: 'We are getting very close to meeting our objectives as we consider winding down our great Military efforts in the Middle East with respect to the Terrorist Regime of Iran.

'(1) Completely degrading Iranian Missile Capability, Launchers, and everything else pertaining to them.

'(2) Destroying Iran's Defense Industrial Base.

'(3) Eliminating their Navy and Air Force, including Anti Aircraft Weaponry.

'(4) Never allowing Iran to get even close to Nuclear Capability, and always being in a position where the U.S.A. can quickly and powerfully react to such a situation, should it take place.

In his post Friday, Trump added a fifth: 'Protecting, at the highest level, our Middle Eastern Allies' and listed America's Gulf partners: Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and others.'

He then went on to describe how he sees the future for the Strait of Hormuz - the shipping waterway that is crucial to international trade.

Iranian TV claims Trump is in 'retreat' after US President announced a five-day halt to attacks after markets plummeted: Live updates

Iranian state television has boasted Donald Trump has 'backed down' in the Iran war after the US President declared a five-day halt in military strikes against energy infrastructure in the country.

Trump announced a pause on attacking Tehran's energy assets this morning after holding what he described as 'very good conversations' about ending hostilities in the Middle East.

But Iranian media say no talks have taken place and Trump has retreated after he issued a 48-hour ultimatum to reopen the partially closed Strait of Hormuz or face power plants being bombed

'Trump, fearing Iran's response, backed down from his 48-hour ultimatum,' read a graphic on IRIB state television.

The President later insisted 'Iran called to make a deal' as he boarded Air Force One in Florida before flying to Memphis.

The financial markets immediately reacted to Trump's post with the price of oil and gas dropping as stocks rebounded across Europe.

Iran fires missiles at Israel after warning Trump they have 'special plans for you tonight' - as US President considers sending thousands of paratroopers to Gulf despute touting 'deal' with mullahs - live updates

Daily Mail
Iran has launched missiles at Israel after it ominously warned Donald Trump that it has 'special plans' for him and the US's allies in the Gulf, following the American president's threat to attack the nation's power plants.

A source told the state-run Fars News Agency: 'Tonight, special events are planned for Tel Aviv and some regional allies of the US and Israel that will completely remove the hope of negotiations from the minds of the aggressors.'

Iran appears to have made good on the threat, firing missiles at Eilat area in southern Israel, as well as the cities of Dimona and Yeruham. Residents in the Jerusalem area tonight reported hearing loud explosions.

The Iranian threat came following Trump's suggestion the Strait of Hormuz could be jointly run by himself and the Ayatollah when it fully reopens to the world following talks to end the Iran war.

The President also claimed Tehran may agree to give up its nuclear ambitions in any deal to put an end to the conflict in his first remarks since announcing a halt on strikes to Iran's energy infrastructure earlier today.

Trump said if upcoming talks go well the war could end within a week, before later adding: 'Otherwise, we'll just keep bombing our little hearts out.'

But Iranian officials told Fars that even if the roiling war ended, 'the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will not return to the pre-war situation.'

Meanwhile Iranian state television has boasted Trump 'backed down' in the war over fears of Iran's response to blowing up the country's power plants.

On Saturday, Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding Iran reopen the partially closed Strait of Hormuz or face new strikes on key energy sites.

Is this why Trump changed his mind? All the ways Iran could retaliate for US energy strike from wiping out Middle East water plants to long-range missile attacks and activating terror sleeper cells
