Surely by the 21st century someone should have come up with some sort of method to reduce crime and the 70% re-offending rate.


Obviously longer sentences are no good and haven't worked.


Perhaps go the other way - shorter sentences and let loose the psychologists and do-gooders on them ?

If crime is a socio-economic issue, then the social framework needs addressing, eg, jobs, money, opportunities, etc.
putting someone in prison doesnt help, if on release, there are still no jobs or opportunities to go straight.

if crime is brain-chemistry gone wrong, then imprisonment doesnt solve the problem either.

need to be more sophisticated about the causes of crimes, before you can "fix" them, rather than just incarceration.
prison helps the innocent feel better about their sense of security knowing baddies are locked up, rather then address the issues.

Could a " One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest " scenario work ? Some sort of high tech brain manipulation. Expunging vile criminal thoughts perhaps.

How can we think we're seriously attempting to deal with crime when we're taking resources away from police forces?

One of the two major factors in promoting tourism worth billions annually is

SAFETY. The tourists really won't want to visit a crime infested city whatever the attractions. A Govt. even with only limited imagination and ability surely must see this.
Less waste of money on weapons of mass destruction and more common sense is needed imo.

Our current politicians are much too feeble to grasp the crime nettle.
They really should have to win back the streets from gangs and villains etc.
From the comfort of their luxury homes in the leafy suburbs they don't often come face to face with the street realties.

Everybody in the country gets judged on their usefulness.
Every year the lowest performers (maybe lowest 0.5%) get relegated to a First Division country, like Portugal, or Estonia.
And the best performers in Division One countries (top 0.5%) get to be promoted to Premiership Countries, like UK, Germany or USA.

That way, you can, from a poor country, work your way up to G7 country, on merit.
And we can offload our criminals, and poor-performers to crap countries.
If you want a better standard of living, you work for it.
If you stop striving, you end up in exactly the country you deserve.

It works in football. Why not extend it to nations?

OK so rejection would be based on their usefulness.
Is that regardless of religion, race etc. ?
Who would judge it ?

I can't see any country willingly accepting lunatics, the useless or criminals in or out of jail.
