Time wasting threads

Because it could be understood as a personal attack I will not give the name of the thread (otherwise I would become hugely unpopular on this forum).

Anyway I've finally decided to read through it today (I've heard it's a good thread and the market was a bit choppy). To cut a long story short, the guy wouldn't give specific info on the system after 200 posts, although other members asked him to do so (all sort of excuses). So, after spending time and effort non the wiser.

What is the point of this sort of threads?
Maybe something to do with attracting new customers?
Not so profitable as a trader, so different source of income needed?

And to make it worse lot of members think it's a good thread.
I don't know. Maybe I'm missing the point.

I don't mind so much if a system developer doesn't divulge all details of their system. However, live trades are what proves a system, not squadrons of indicators and techni-colour charts.

I'd love to have a little bleep go off on my PC when a T2W poster puts up a live FTSE100 trade.

Maybe it's a good way to apply some trading skills.

Sort of stop loss (of the time spent reading through a thread):

Let's say after 20 posts if there are no specific details about the system, cut your time loss and look for a better thread or do something else. Otherwise you loss becomes bigger and there is a possibility that the thread is not there to make you better trader, but instead to provide source of income to the thread starter.

So you may end up wasting money as well.

One of the things that I would very much like to change during my tenure as 'T2W Content Manager' is the star rating system. As it stands, it has little value as any member can rate a thread with 5 stars (which is the maximum). I am very keen to see a system implemented which fairly and reasonably assesses a thread in terms of its interest and useful trading content for fellow members.

I've bought the Radio Times for many, many years and pay close attention to their star rating system which, like ours, ranges from 1 - 5 stars. I very rarely ever watch a 1 star rated film. I'd need a personal connection with the movie for me to watch it. If a film is rated 2 stars I won't, generally, watch it unless I particularly like the leads or the director. 3 stars and I'll give it a go depending on my mood and cast list etc. 4 stars, I'll either watch it or record it unless I know I don't like the leads or the director. 5 stars and I'll probably watch it whatever my gut instinct, unless I have a dim view of the reviewer. In the case of the RT, all the current crop of reviewers are pretty good, IMO. So, my goal is to somehow translate this simple RT system which has worked very well for me over many years to T2W. So far, I'm at a complete loss for a fair - and workable - way of achieving it!

Hi Tim.

Thanks for posting.

Sometimes the current rating system is a bit misleading and introduction of a new rating system would make it less confusing.

Yesterday I was a bit annoyed going through a thread (with good ratings) and realising after more than 200 pages that I wasted time. That's why I started this thread.

Good to hear somebody took it seriously (unfortunately I wasted some of the members' time - What to do? I didn't mean to.)

Hi bedsit,
I absolutely understand where you're coming from and sympathize completely.
Although you (very tactfully) didn't mention the thread in question, I've a pretty good idea of which one it is. Rest assured, it's a problem I'm very aware of and keen to do something about. Unfortunately, as always, the solution has to be:
1. Workable, (i.e. simple and not open to abuse in the way the current system is).
2. Technologically doable within the confines of the Vbulletin software (that's what T2W runs on) and . . .
3. Within budget. Understandably, like any good businessman, Sharky has to devote financial resources to areas that will help to grow the business.
Satisfying all three criteria is the problem I/we face continually. Since I started in the job, I've lost count of the ideas that I've put before Sharky for consideration - either my own (occasionally) or, often as not, ideas from the members. Any idea has to satisfy these three criteria as a bare minimum before being considered seriously and, sadly, less than one in a hundred do. Okay, I made that figure up - but you take my point - I hope!
