I think it's fairly normal with SB companies. CMC close FTSE trading from 07:50 to 08:00 (though I noticed it was 08:01 today). Other major markets remain tradable, such as Dow and Dax.
U.S. (and Rest of the World XI) against Syria - not much of a 'war' really.
Still, as you say it's an excuse to sell, though the debt ceiling and taper news flow is probably more of a reason.
The DOW can and has fallen > 150 in a day without the market halting. It's if individual stocks drop 10% in a day that trading is halted, for that stock.
or am I misinterpreting what you said?
FTSE100 has strong support around here 6550/60 it seems. Resistance was at 6650, bearing in mind the dividend. Europe/UK have been holding up well given that Dow is 350 points off in the past 10 days or so. Personally I feel the DAX is due a hit but I'm rarely right on these things.
Soros had...
Had a nice big short on the Dow that got stopped out at 15516 late this afternoon... just before the drop started. Could have really done with clawing back some of my losses.
This has been the worst year of my life.
At this stage though you could just pluck any number that is a few % points higher and it'll soon be hit. The real genius will be the one who calls the turn correctly, even if it's a pullback they call - now that's a lot harder than picking a higher target in such a rampant bull market.
Probably due to my own lack of education on this subject but I've never heard of the Rule of 20 before and it does seem that the bulls are pulling out any reason they can to keep this rally going - or at least to justify it.
The Dow is now up 17% this year and at this rate it will be up 40% by...
Am I reading this right? So in other words, in the past 64 years, 7.8% of the years did not experience a 5% correction -- meaning that 92.2% of the years did
So on the 3pm release there was a direct sharp move down from 15284 to 15260 (and now 15250). No fake spike on my SB account to catch the stops.
A short at 15284 or thereabouts with a stop at 15300 would have worked a treat.
I get what you guys are saying - especially about slippage on stops -...
