Anyone scalping the FTSE Futures??

Dow strong again ! Cant believe Dax off 50 ticks dow unchanged from pre number now!

Dow waiting on 3pm Philly Fed Manufacturing Index.

If it's good then market will rise more.
If it's bad then market will rise more.

Its and amazing bear/bull transformation ! Tonight Matthew im going to be.............. a bull !

think they used the data release to take out bulls and put some people short.

the SP500 cash was 100% bullish on wed close, dow 88% bullish

they did similiar trick before tepper was going to speak, my dax bull entries should work like clockwork and when they dont u know it is the work of the devil, it did eventually see a 100pt upswing but a 70pt drawdown before they gave the truth away

Dow +12 15,289 hmm approaching 12,300

If you lose money shorting the market (which I did) then you've got to start buying it. Trading 101 - the trend is your friend.

Next week I might be Bearish again...

what if you lose money buying it today ?

On important scheduled news/numbers releases like the US ones at 13:30 and 15:00 today, have you guys ever placed a trade with a tight stop in advance of the release - with the purpose being to catch a gap or sharp move?

I took a small DAX short at 8396 (now closed) before the 13:30 drop but I was thinking, what about taking a large short position with a tight stop? That way if the numbers go your way then you catch a swift and large fall, but if numbers go against you then you just get stopped out.

So for example I could have gone 50 short on DAX at 8396 with a stop at say 8310. Possible loss £600 but potential profit far greater (40 points today = £2000).

Not sure if this is a valid or good trading move. Probably more Casino style.

What do you think?

So on the 3pm release there was a direct sharp move down from 15284 to 15260 (and now 15250). No fake spike on my SB account to catch the stops.

A short at 15284 or thereabouts with a stop at 15300 would have worked a treat.

I get what you guys are saying - especially about slippage on stops - and need to watch this carefully if I go with this kind of trade.

Guaranteed stops should work shouldn't they? SD you don't think so?

You might as well ask "What if the sky falls in". Lose money shorting the FTSE. Stuff and nonsense.

Seriously - you couldn't make this up. We will be sitting with our grandchildren on our knees in days to come (when the Dow is at 4,000) saying "I remember buying the Dow at record highs in the biggest recession the world has ever seen and making money"... and they won't believe ya.
