moderator initiated post deletion and stealth editing

Appears to have been a bit of moderator initiated post deletion and stealth editing on this thread today. As pointless as it is irritating. Please can we have our site back now? Or are you mod-guys going to unilaterally make it an image of what you consider perfection - and boring for everyone else?

I have moved the above post out of the thread "trading strategies" as I felt that there was a need to discuss and a first steps thread wasn't really the correct place to do it.

For your info I deleted some stuff in that thread that was really unnecessary for discussion, ok it was a laugh and I did leave for some time before deleting, but new members don't know whether some comments are genuine or not, and the donkey being another members mother, a laugh or not it had to go, sorry.

Feel free to discuss further.

It's just another re-run of the Marshall Matt power trip. This time it's Don.

Each new slew of mods and we get the power trip. Guys, if you have time on your hands, do some gardening, but don't mess with my posts...

Each one thinking they know best and exceeding their remit in exercising their facility in respect of published guidelines and giving the rest of us the benefit of their far greater knowledge and expertise in what is, and what is not suitable, for everyone at all levels, at all times. Bit like our politicians.....

This site ends up reflecting the flavour of the month from whatever previously normal member has been ramped up to uber-member (mod) status.

It isn't the mods that make this site, it's the members' contributions, yet you'd never think so.

Edit away - delete away - it'll all look like you want it to look by the time you've finished.

Says who? You? And what are your qualifications for making these subtle distinctions? One time top games scorer on the site? Wow, my hero. Do you have any prior moderator experience? Any trading experience? Have you ever even MET any traders? They're not Mary Whitehouse or Mother Teresa.

Why? Nobody objected apart from you it would seem. Especially not the member it was aimed at who found the remark, as intended, funny. Indeed, as did your fellow moderator. Must be great to be all-seeing and all-knowing.

Which raises the question of why one would be a moderator at all. Occasionally fun but not frequently enough. It's often frustrating and time consuming even when its just the damned spammers but this little thread is special. Who wants to be exposed to the maligning you're giving LM for doing what he's supposed to be doing.

I take my hat off to barjon, counter violent, and Lightning McQueen for the effort they've made to keep the site spam free and topics on track; and to the earlier moderators who did the same. Personally I don't find the pluses outweighing the minuses so I'll leave you to it.

Enjoy. I'm going back to reading 1 post in 100.

alright, its deleted, but ive done this job for many a year and i walked very softly while carrying a big stick --- those on the boards knew me to be fair and to allow pretty much anything except down and dirty fights, which i reserved solely for my own pleasure !

there seems to be some "vagueness" in WHAT is allowed and what isnt, so maybe a mod meeting is in order to set firmer guidelines

I thought the comments were unedifying, confusing and wholly inappropriate for a newbie thread in the First Steps forum. I believe said newbie was of the fairer sex and, as we all know, there's precious few women on these boards. I say 'was' because her experience this weekend will probably lead her to conclude that there's little of interest or value for her here on T2W. So, LM exercised his powers as a mod' both fairly and correctly IMO - well done Don! Let's hope it's enough and in time to warrant the new member giving T2W a second chance.
