Asian Coronavirus Outbreak

From the 'Boomerang News'

In rescuing fellow Aussies from the dreaded Chinese Lurgy:

Australia plans to detain any returning zombies that may be carrying the virus in a suitably remote gulag island camp over 1,000 miles off the mainland.

Not sure the sudden urgent demand for prefabricated cells to 'house' ~600 ish quaranteen patients is enough to move stock prices in that sector, but watch closely if numbers escalate . . .

Additionally, Scientists in Australia have become the first to recreate the new coronavirus outside of China in what they have called a "significant breakthrough". Errr, Umm.

Quite what is significant about this is unclear, as Scientists in China had already recreated the virus and shared its genome sequence with Scientists Worldwide and the WHO.

Furthermore

The Aussie Government strenuously denies and refuses to acknowledge unfounded rumours of other contingency plans.

such as suggestions that

Fortunately any sick citizens that have already succumbed to the infection could be conveniently and hygienically disposed of by air-drop into one of the many large conflagrations already well established, thus incinerating the corpses and all traces of the virus, ensuring zero risk of contamination.

:p

(No) Coffee.

Starbucks has closed half of its outlets in China to protect its staff and support official efforts to contain the coronavirus.

The coffee shop chain warned that the rapidly expanding infection is likely to adversely affect its financial performance.

It has almost 4,300 outlets in China, making it the company's largest market outside the US.

Their first Chinese store opened in Beijing in January 1999. Chinese sales account for about 10% of Starbucks' global revenue, making the country its most important global growth engine.

The move further highlights the major challenges facing global corporations from the spread of the deadly virus.

As to the impact on the Nations infamously traditional beverage, Tea, little information has yet emerged.

The virus is apparently especially lethal to the old and sick. A sort of flu.
No big deal.

& now the UK government plans to fly 200 British citizens out of Wuhan, the centre of the coronavirus outbreak.

Of course, returning passengers will be required to sign a contract agreeing to commit to a quarantine period.

They will be put in "supported isolation" for 14 days with "all necessary medical attention"

= Politic speak for "thrown in a concentration camp with heavily armed guards, cctv and very high fencing"

[ A meeting of the government's emergency Cobra committee takes place on Wednesday (this) evening. ]

The government offered no comment on reports it would be a military base.

Some Britons in Wuhan said they had not been told about the quarantine plan, with one man having refused his place on the flight for fear of spreading the disease.

Passengers will be screened-
"If they were to be suffering temperature or any other symptoms, breathing problems, then there seems to be a possibility of quarantining at this (the China) end."

Ergo.

Those with any sense left will stay put and not apply to travel, unless they desire to spend the next few weeks in one concentration camp or another.....

o_O

Hmmmm.

Is it time to research yet who makes body bags, razor wire etc or which corporations run crematoria ??

That is, while Governments keep vast stockpiles of such things in reserve, a sudden unexpected surge in demand will soon see those exhausted.

;)

I wonder if this virus was tailored.

Maybe a solution to many countries Health Crises, Pension Crises and Aging Crises as well as releasing trillions of equity via inheritance into the hands of young people who no doubt will spend it all very wisely.

Could be very positive to markets after a brief pause and some reflection, once a peak is reached.

😈👹👺👿

Hard to believe it's been engineered, the horrors of a lockdown in diseased cities, hard to imagine the security position, soldiers on the streets enforcing curfews etc. I would take my chances in a military hole-up in the UK for 2 weeks, at least it's not China.

Shows that Porton Down have not got a grip on the disease yet if they need military lockdown in the UK, some no doubt will be headed for Porton to be lab rats.

Cruise ship about to go into quarantine in Italy, illegal immigration prevention will need to be stepped up around Europe, which markets cater for these sort of eventualities, go short on entertainment stocks? Go long on bio security and border protection companies?

Ooooh ! A floating coffin for 6,000 !

how very convenient if they test positive

... just tow out to sea and open 'dem scuttle-cocks. So simple.

Now, as I understand it, Greece is planning to install a massive floating barrier kilometers wide in the Aegean Sea to help stop migrant boats full of dreaded lurgies reaching its islands.

Yeah, definately go long on biosecurity and extermination facilities as numbers climb.

Entertainment? - there'll be plenty of that, tweets galore once panic sets in.

:)

| & finally, now that the little varmits have a firm foothold in 18 other countries (and counting) -

The new coronavirus has been declared a global emergency by the World Health Organization, as the outbreak continues to spread outside China.

No shit, Sherlock, WHO goto top of the class.

:ROFLMAO:

Invest in USA and Europe, that's where the manufacturing will be moving, no, wait, Europe & US are infected too.....maybe the UK?

I think it's just another new cold virus - as per Darwin's theory of evolution takes out the weaker species.

Masks sold out - may leave health professionals and public in need of dental treatment or surgery in danger.

Human nature likes to go nuts.

Aaaaaaaw ;(

But, but, but, Wilbur Ross (US commerce secretary) said that the deadly coronavirus could be good for the US economy.

Besides, we haven't had a decent pandemic for over 100 years, so it's about time !

;)

& to update and compare:

The number of coronavirus cases worldwide has surpassed that of the previous Sars epidemic, which spread to more than two dozen countries in 2003.

There were around 8,100 cases of Sars - severe acute respiratory syndrome - reported during that outbreak.

But at least 9,962 people have been infected with the new coronavirus, so far.

However;

The number of deaths stands at 213 - all in China. That is far lower than the 774 people killed by Sars.

The Sars virus, which was also a type of coronavirus that originated in China, spread to 26 countries in the early 2000s.

Current coronavirus variant has only reached 18 to date though.

Early days yet, but given the dismal failure to lock down international travel immediately, this is looking like it'll surpass it's predecessor by a very long way.

& if it manages to get a toehold somewhere with low flu immunity and naff all medical facilities, well ......

We should have a better idea in a week or two.

Good to compare and put perspective on numbers.

As it stands death rate to Cronavirus stands around 3.3%

I suspect with time this will drop as we build immunity and a vaccine arrives on the scene.

High R0 of about 2.5 means that infections will grow for 2-3 weeks a least but low mortality (1-2% vs 10-15% SARS)

Trade boys, trade, forget about the virus, its a non-event

Forex trader infected with the corona virus went into a pizza shop and ordered a large. When asked whether he wanted it cut into 6 or 8 slices, replied, "I'm rather hungry so better cut it into 8 slices"
