It's worrying that people so close to power can think that way. I'm certainly not voting Labour next time!

I wouldn't worry. Hain wants to stand for deputy leader and needs union support - politics of envy makes an easy score in that regard. Gordo knows how much he relies on the tax-take from the City to keep the New Labour project afloat and won't risk upsetting the boat for the sake of a few good headlines that'll come of hammering a few thousand one-bar bonuses.
