I have a question a little like Skill's of the past two weekends.
Since he said something about not doing a teaser this weekend I thought I might.
This one is to find out just how smart people really are here at trade2win.
Ok, so that's not a fair thing to say. Not smart, but how educated they are.
I think it is an easy one, but lets see.
Take a look at the poll and make your choice.

The question is this:

Does the earth revolve around the sun?

Don't give the answer away if you know:cheesy:

Are there any special constraints we need to know about the Earth and the Sun over and above those that we currently believe to exist in reality?

Do you mean like you can look at the sun but not touch it as opposed to the earth which you can touch but not look at?

No, I believe the question stands as is. And remember If you know don't tell. At least not yet.

No. It's just that I'm a little 'uneasy' about teasers right at this minute. There are far more idiots around than I'd expected. Which is great - becasue its those idiots that are giving me my profits, but even so, even I am surprised by the number of them and the extent of their stupidity.

Plus, given we have a large party of Flat-Earther's amongst us, I suspect this one may be seen to be rubbing salt into their wounds a little.

Still..play on...

Ok here is a serious reply.

There are infinite degrees of freedom in space. That is we are not talking in a simple x y & z axis as in a three dimensional spectrum but infinite number of axis of motions ie. infinite degrees of movement.

Thus theoretically speaking it is quite possible for earth to rotate around the sun rotating around the earth infinite times...

So my answer would be not necessarily as it depends from how far out you are looking from?

Need more quality input to get quality output. Insufficient resources to determine outcome.

Obvious init? :cheesy:

You would work. Just any place on earth. Or for that matter in the physical universe as we currently know it.

From my perspective very roughly speaking the sun can be said to be orbiting me. From the perspective of the sun the earth is orbiting the centre of the sun. From the perspective of some nob the other side of the heliosheath the sun and the earth are both orbiting a point very close to the centre of the stone (but then again this is an n-body problem so we need to disregard other bodies).

So you need a reference frame.

That said the bible makes it reasonably clear the earth is flat, and that's good enough for me!

You must choose your own frame of reference.
Your point in space and then what you visual observe. Or it could be from a mathematical point of view. Or the bible. Although, I don't remember it saying the world is flat, a newer translation may have added that.
Don't look to others for the answer. You must find it in your self!
Hey that sounded good! I think I will write that one down.

Hwsteele I can tell you how the next 4 days of your life are going to go should you decide to tread this path:

1) Brambles gets the question incorrect, and asks you a string of irrelevant questions about the topic at hand.
2) Somewhere in the midst of the next 60 pages someone spots the use of a colon in the OP where a semicolon would have been more appropriate, and points it out to you.
3) Brambles then says 'Aha, but if I had known that the OP contained two separate yet related sentences rather than a list or summary of events, of course I would have gone with the other answer'
4) Mr Charts will at this point appear, saying that he of course also knew the correct answer; he was merely sandbagging us all with his vague, noncommittal posts whilst chortling to himself about how clever he is.
5) Brambles and Charts then decide to use the thread (since everyone else has abandoned it) as a mutual adulation/circle-jerk arena, spouting strings of fancy words which they can neither use correctly nor spell.

That should about cover it; if I were you I'd give it the old Cincinnati sidestep.

Is the Earth on a conveyor belt?

"We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point.
We go 'round every two hundred million years,"

"The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour,
Of the galaxy we call the 'Milky Way'."

...Also highly relevant...

"And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth. "
