Offices?

Anyone here rent an office for there trading? I'm thinking of getting myself an office due to the fact im bored at home and also i am taking on a friend who wants to learn trading and would be better done from an office

ALthough i don't trade full time yet, I think I may be the end of this year. I'll certainly rent an office. Working from home just wouldn't work for me, wife, kids, too many distractions.

Although I'm too new to trading to offer a difinitive opinion vis-a-vis trading, I have spent the last 6 1/2 years running my own business which started with my working from home and ended up with working in an office. In my experience working from home is great providing one has the space, peace and quiet, and the understanding of those others who share the home. A lot of people say that working from home requires discipline and I completely agree. What they fail to mention is it doesn't just require your self-discipline but also discipline in those around you to not interrupt you during the working day. In other words you may understand when you are 'at work' but will others? If this going to be a problem then get an office.

On a different note, a major problem I had was that working from home turned me into a workaholic. This can lead to all sorts of medical, stress-related issues. The cure was very simple - don't work at home and don't bring work home.

As, and hopefully when, I start to make consistent profits then I will be seriously considering an office in order to maintain a healthy work / life balance.

P.S. Given the current state of commercial rents now would be a pretty good time to be signing a lease!!
P.P.S. The major drawback for any business moving into premises is the sudden escalation in running costs for that business. Assuming that trading is viewed as a business then it is important to calculate the extra revenue that will need to be generated to pay for premises. (Hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs with that statement)

Totally agree Checked small offices around me. £3000 p/a seems about right for a small office. Plenty of room for a big desk-work area, and a relaxation area.

i was thinking around 3-400sq/ft im not sure? room for 2 large desks with maybe 10 monitors in the room, with tv and xbox and somewhere to relax

it's a steal, if i could find space for that i wouldn't hesitate

You Know this is something I have been balancing for the past few months. It certainly adds to the business side of trading, but it's not required. I am fortunate that my wife is actually very protective of me while trading. She keeps our kids out of my hair - actually too much

For me, I was leaning to getting something at the end of this school year. I need to get out there and price it out. I agree that commercial real estate is probably pretty affordable at this time.

RENT AN OFFICE ???
Look at the costs, inc business rate of phones and other services.
For a much better option try renting a well serviced apartment, usually comes in at £500 rent £30 phones ect £10 per month Eleteric £5 water and council tax £100 ish total £650 and you get a second home with fridge, freezer washing machine fitted bathroom and bedrooms.
With property prices getting lower renting an apartment could be a much better option.

its not just about the space, its more having somewhere in centre of town that you actually get up and go to work at, im bored of sitting about in my house, i wana go trade in an office in town with my buddy, suit up, go for lunch etc.get out the house.all the things you miss out on with trading from home

A good idea may be to see if any companies in a related business have some spare space. this may be very likely at the moment. You may then be able to share stuff like a good internet connection, and also meet more people so making it feel more like work.

no what you mean about being a workoholic i barely leave my pc and stay up till all hours looking at charts etc and pondering the world! altho i do sleep in till the afternoon :clap:

Another zero hassle option are business centres, they are sort of like hotels that rent out furnished and equipped offices instead of bed rooms, plus if need be conference rooms, video conferencing etc, and that have staff available to organize things for you or receive visitors etc that you pay only on a as needed basis, and with contracts starting out from a single day...

Serviced office space, virtual office and meeting room hire from Abbey Business Centres

Regus > Serviced Office Space for rent, Meeting Rooms and Virtual Offices

How much space do you need ? You can get an office here for much less than 3K a month.

Have you had a look at the Serviced offices ? Not Servcorp & the mega plush ones - there are some other ones where you could get a nice office for about 1K sterling.

Let me know if you want some info on the places - I have friends who do this.

My office - 240 sq Metres is only 170K Baht a month - that's not much more that 3K.
