I'm looking for a SB (or broker) who will send out price alerts, via email or text, when certain prices (set by me) on instruments have been hit or breached.

Who can deliver this service, pls?

TIA

Email & SMS Alerts - timetotrade

Any decent charting platform such as Ninja trader can be set to
send email / audio alerts as well.
If present at screen, use yahoo messenger for live email alerts.

If its email to mobile, sms is far more reliable,
use sms from start or email to sms bridge:
http://www.trade2win.com/boards/general-trading-chat/124906-email-sms-bridges.html

I've used all the above.
Timetotrade work well.
Main pitfall is not to rely on mobile email.
3g mailbox connection drops made it unreliable for me.
With better reception or 4g it may be more reliable.

Thanks. I don't have NinjaTrader.

Any spreadbet firms that can do this?

IG used to, may still do.
TBH though, I tried it a few times, and got 1 alert 15 mins late.
To be fair I think they were offering free sms at the time.
System capacity probably got overloaded.
All the same, I never used it again...

Timetotrade worked faultlessly the whole time I used it.
Why do you want alerts from the broker themselves?

I don't want to watch a screen all day long. I used to have a pocket pager (many years ago!) which alerted me (by making a sound) to price breaches. Want something similar, but to my smartphone.

Thanks again. Any freebie ones? Does Interactive Brokers have this?

Free - I can't remember for sure, but I think T2T do free email only
for 1 instrument.
More than that or sms and its pay.

Not aware of any other free alerts apart from free RNS UK stock alerts.

Ninja trader is completely free unless yo wan to execute through the platform.
Get a feed - broker feed will do, create level alerts in Ninja
then either send those emails direct to mobile, or via one of
the email to sms bridge companies mentioned in the link I posted earlier.

BTW - T2T do have level alerts, draw your own and set rules for it.
The site gives the impression its all MA crossovers...

I just tried it with T2T, email worked fine! Would luv it if i could be SMS'ed. Will have a look at those bridging companies. Also need to look at IG.

Will look into Ninjatrader too.

Many thanks again.

I used the alerts through IG a few years back and they worked fine. I presume they still do

You can have sms or instant messenger as well as email.
sms bridge probably is more economical though.

If you have 4g and decent reception, try push email on mobile - always on connection
will chew battery though.
Get a solar / twin AA battery phone charger as well maybe.
Or if phone allows easy battery swaps - a spare mobile battery.

Knew there was something I'd forgotten, this may be worth a shot as well.
Depends if your broker allows to set a max inactivity time to prevent
logout, and whether or not your home PC / connection is secure:
Free Screen Sharing and Online Meeting Software | Screenleap

If you don't trust a home setup, no reason you couldn't run a remote server.
http://www.zen.co.uk/business/hosting-and-domains/dedicated-servers.aspx
Install any trade platform, or just log into broker web platform,
the use screenleap to monitor via mobile.

Just a thought as most mobile broker platforms have to cater to
lowest denominator (crap phones).
With a decent 7" screen smartphone, you could have desktop quality
monitoring.

May be overkill, thought I'd mention it.

I'm making my platform able to text me on smartphone. All the major carriers AT&T, Sprint.... Can use email to send a text message just google for how to do it. Mine is "phone number"@att.text.net.

Cheers

America is light years ahead of Europe on telecoms.
My mobile provider used to do that, then they shut down
the fkin sms server...
Probably due to spam traffic or something.

Yeah, I have some knowledge of spammer programming. I know that now it is a lot harder to be anonymous and spam. Almost impossible through the current USA SMS servers of providers. I didn't realize the current European telco situation. There are many bridging companies but they charge. I do prefer text to email alerts so I'd pay for it if I had to.

Cheers

most, if not all of london capital group use timetotrade charts, free, with SB brokers like capital spreads, tradefair, intertrader etc... you can set alerts to email, then set up your smart phone to receive and alert you when emails come through, same as receiving a sms.

London stock exchange.com ( free email alerts )

IG used to, may still do.

Just to confirm that IG definitely still do (for account holders) inclusive SMS alerts, just as the OP requested. I find it a very useful service, particularly when out and about, and when any are set, usually receive an alert within 10 or 15 seconds of my set price being triggered. One thing though, it would be wise for folk not to abuse (by overusing) their service. In other words, I'm sure they don't mind regular account holders using this service to receive around a couple of alerts a day, but methinks receiving much more SMS alerts than that may well run yourself into 'fair usage' territory. HTH

Prospreads can do email alerts, as can Capital Spreads (as mentioned already). You can select if you want the Open, High, Low or Close price level to be hit; make sure you select 'check trigger on each tick during interval' otherwise the system defaults to check just at the candle close.

Probably true, I was using it for 5-10 alerts per day...
