Can you get alerts for constant price changes?

Hi

I know there are alerts for specific prices, but is there any service that allows you to get notified when the price increases or decreases by a set amount, say 5 points?

And for it to constantly tell you.

Thanks

Fantastic. I think this is just what I need. I have manually entered in a bunch of numbers each increasing by 5 points. However, I have a feeling the recurring percentage change is exactly what I want, so I'll enter in a couple of those too and see what happens tomorrow when it's back on.

The only problem may be that since the Dow doesn't open until 2:30 Irish time, it won't show me price changes until then, is that correct? Because on ETX Capital the trading platform I'm using, it actually opens for trading at 11 tonight, but I think any price changes then are not registered to the Dow until it opens officially. Is that right?

Thats right, when the DOW stocks are closed the ETX price will be tracking the futures contract. You could put the alert on the futures contract instead if you wanted.

I took a look and noticed that the futures contract is at 23,385. And it says Dow Jones 30 Futures - Dec 17. What does that mean? I don't know anything about futures to be honest. Does that mean if it stays as it is, it is going to open at that price.

The thing is, it says that it closed at that price on Friday, and as well as that, I noticed it has always been a little bit different. However, it seems to always be different by the same amount, so logically if I am only looking for 5 point increases it can still do the exact same trick.

So that solves it I am sure. Just curious about the other stuff.

Thanks a lot, you're a great help.

Cheers

Just said I'd tell you, this is working nicely, the Dow just opened up now and I had it set to tell me and it's alerting me for every small percentage increase. A good start. Only thing is it would be great if the phone beeped, but it's good enough since all I need to do is take the phone out of my pocket every now and again. That's the joys of trying to do this while hanging onto a job by a string :D
