Laptop boot-up problem

Hi everyone, does anyone know how to fix a 500Mhz K6-2 AMD Laptop. It has Windows 98 installed on it, however, it does not boot up satisfactorily. After switching on, the boot-up Win98 logo screen appears, shortly followed by a dark black screen with the processor LEDS flicking and humming in the background. Is this just a boot-up problem, whereby I have to re-install Win98, or is it a more serious problem? Thanks. Bye.

Try a boot up floppy disc and see if that boots ( you may have to change the bios boot sequence).
Try pressing F8 on boot up, and then select 3- safe mode.
