Does anyone use a specialized keypad to trade FX? I hear EBS has a proprietary keypad to trade FX. Is it any good? Are there any features not on that keyboard you would like to use?

I think a lot of professional platforms have at least some capability to enter trades using the keyboard. I have CQG trader and it can enter a trade using the normal keyboard left/right arrow keys. There isnt much of an advantage to using it other than to enter news trades quickly.

EBS and oteghr interbank systems offer keypad entry but it's really not necessary unless you are actively bidding / offering. For the normal retail trader it will give you little or nothing you don't already have with a mouse / keyboard. Just gadgetry for the sake of it......

is there a keyboard specially for forex users? i have never heard this one before, can you share where can i get it?

No it comes with the EBS or Reuters professional system. You don't need one. Trust me on this. You could pay to have one built for yourself but the money really would be better spent elsewhere.

The EBS keypad is proprietary, and very similar to the HotspotFX keypad

They are actually manufactured by CA Designs in the uk:

and painted specifically for the client.

If you want them CA Designs will supply you a "blank", but for £400 quid a shot !!!!

We have a couple - they use a simple serial protocol over a serial interface - we hooked them up to our proprietary gui some years ago and they work consistently well even though they are shockingly expensive.

If you want a poor mans keypad, try using one of these:

I've used the Genovation 682 and 683 for Forex, TradeStation, etc. They are generic programmable keypads that you can assign any hot-keys to. Maybe someone has a template already that they want to share?

I have to agree with GammaJammer. Many (most?) platforms allow 1-click trading which is as fast or faster than hotkey. Also for forex traders using metatrader you can create or download free simple BUY/SELL scripts that you can assign a hotkey to if you wish or you can double-click trade. Specialty keypads seem so expensive compared to whatever extra functionality you get from them.
