FTSE - which sector

Hello everyone. This is my first post.

I have recently opened an online trading account to trade on the FTSE.

My question is, is there a preferred sector to trade in at the moment. My first thought was banking but having read through various posts here I think that's a non starter for the moment.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

From my understanding of stocks (I no longer trade stocks), you can either just trade the same handful of shares that have a lot of volume and movement, going long and short where appropriate or use stock scanning tools to look for specific technical developments in the price, whether it is a pattern or an indicator event.

Interesting that you will trade the FTSE from France - what is the mechanism you will use - shares? ETFs? CFDs? spreadbetting? direct access?

In the UK we have choices as to how to trade a specific share or we can trade the FTSE100 index itself, using spreadbetting or an ETF such as the FTSE100 iShare. That approach eliminates most of the risk attached to an individual company but does also average down your gains.

I was thinking of shares mainly because I am a beginner.
