Yes if the market makes a big move, no if it doesn't. It's really as simple as that.
But thinking about it, it's not actually because if you buy the strategy when volatility is high, it's in turn hard to make money even if the market makes a big move, unless that big move is a really big one to the downside and volatility increases even more.
