CMC & Firewalls

Hi All,

I quite like CMC, but have had issues with their platform. When I try logging on to the Marketmaker, it does not show any live quotes. I understand this is a problem with my firewall (Kerio - sunbelt), which I have used as norton was slowing computers down a lot. However, as far as I can see, I ahve given this software the necessary permissions on the firewall, but to no avail. Any inputs? The technical people there haven't been of much help, appreciate any tips you may have.

Nope. Not the kerio.

I have been running it for years with cmc. No problems.

I also run avg at the same time and all is fine.

Well, up to yesterday when I had a message come up while I was running cmc saying that I wasn't an authorised user and I couldn't log into the system!
But I think this is due to a problem their end.

Is your java up to date? With the help desk it is pot luck who you get. Some are very good, some haven't got a clue what they are talking about. A few years back one of them was benificial in helping to 'blow up' one of my comps. Upshot was a wipe and load! Twats!

* Simple way to tell is to disable kerio and then try to run market maker. Let us know 'cause there is something else in the back of my brain the market maker doesn't like and I can't think of it at the mo.

Thank you very much for your reply. Hmm, wonder what the problems is then? By the way its been there for a long time, so haven't been trading with cmc for a long while. Also, can fully understand your sentiment about the quality of tech support sometimes!

I take it on the kerio you have got both iiappstart and iilauncher as permitted and nothing else? Appreciate your input if ok.

Are you running IE?

In any case make sure you have the java enabled and the microsoft VM disabled, apart from the JIT compiler for virtual machine etc.
Thats in internet options under the advanced tab. Scroll down to just before half way.

And That's about the limit of my technical expertise.
 
Well I have installed the latest update for CMC but I guess I have nothing to lose by removing and reinstalling the software all over again. Oh, I do use IE and I also have the latest Java version. Many Thanks for your help Buddy, I really appreciate it.
 
Just thought.

Disable any firewalls while you install cmc. Then restart walss and run a scan, (just in case).
 
Thanks for your inputs guys, unfortunately its still not working. :rolleyes:

Will have to phone those tech support guys again and see if it can be sorted - hopefully this time I will get the right person :)
 
Have you tried turning the firewall off and connectiong, careful if not behind a NAT router, make sure your OS is fully patched.

Don't know what NAT means, but am behind a hardware firewall. If I disable my software firewall briefly then the prices do refresh - and that is how I identified the conflict as being with the firewall.

However I have given full permissions for the CMC software (inside kerio) as far as I can see. The guy at the tech desk had never heard of kerio/sunbelt although I find it to be fast and reliable (compared to say Norton). I was almost convinced it wouldn't work with said firewall but surprised to see it work for options.

Hmm..... and oh, re the patches, I regularly update my xp with the latest fixes.

Any further suggestions?

NAT simply stands for network address translation a standard used in most routers.

In the meantime, you could disable Kerio to trade, if you are behind a hardware firewall there should be no problem.

You might also want to look at the traffic logs to see what is being blocked

I was almost convinced it wouldn't work with said firewall but surprised to see it work for options.
That's odd, would almost suggest it may be a problem with the cmc software, but I am not familiar with that.

Try this.

Take off cmc. Take off kerio. Install cmc. Install kerio and allow everything when it starts up. Run virus scan to see if anything got through that shouldn't have.

Let us know what happens.

What message are you getting from cmc? Or does it just not work?

Thanks for the link to the website, looks very useful indeed. I have other accounts to trade from, so would prefer to sort this before using CMC again.

What message are you getting from cmc? Or does it just not work?

Will take these steps on Monday and report back here. You are right about IE, Kerio and CMC and there is nothing else I am aware of that should matter at all, apart from maybe using a wireless broadband router.

When I log onto CMC it does not pull up my saved layouts (no response from server). With kerio off if I pull up prices, it works, but when kerio is on it just shows N/A on the open price screens. Also at the bottom it says server response time <10 ms in green, by which I assume there is some sort of connection.

One other link I can suggest if you cannot find an answer on the Kerio forum is Wilders Security Forum A lot of firewall experts hang out here and one of them can likely figure out what the problem is.. Don't think there is a specific Kerio forum there so just post under other firewalls, they're usually pretty good at coming up with solutions.
