Capitalism

I was only using picture insofar as the banner.

I was not actually just pointing at your statements about the picture. I was pointing out that the majority of your argument in this thread have been left-wing in the least and more pro socialism. I am not going to re-paraphrase 40+ pages.

Sorry hhiusa

You are just SO WRONG

I am a Capitalist - I have voted Conservative many times - I have made a lot of the money from many businesses in the past - and I am NO WAY a left wing socialist.

To me - it shows you are a person who is all one way - or all the other way

A black or white person - no grey area.

Socialism as loads of bad points - and so does Capitalism in isolation.

I prefer Capitalism -when its controlled - the pure free trade capitalism is ridiculous and is not healthy to a successful economy that cares for all its citizens and wants a fairer society .

Its not worth discussing more with you on this subject until you can acknowledge Capitalism's weaknesses

Regards

You are so wrong. Controlled capitalism is an oxymoron. This is a contradiction in terms. Laissez-faire and control are antonyms.

Does that mean that anything but an unfettered market place is not capitalism but socialism, then? That would mean that USA is one of the most seriously socialist countries in the world.

What a pointless and untrue statement. The UK wants a Mansion Tax, they have VAT, stamp duty and the list is much longer than in the US. I can't imagine how anyone in their right mind could argue that the 7 times smaller economy across the Atlantic is less socialist than the US. Council estates, a state run monopolistic media and a queen with royal assent authority.

These must be fictional trades then.

 I didn't suggest any comparison twixt UK and USA. Just that USA has a plethora of regulations (controlled capitalism in other words) and by your own arguments must therefore be defined as socialist.

So far as the trades are concerned I wasn't having a pop - just saying good going.

Not quite! Taxes are a form of regulation and the UK has us beat in that regard. It seems like the UK taxes anything they can get their hands on. The Labour wants a Mansion Tax. A tax on the wealthy just because they are wealthy.

A state run media monopoly (BBC). However, you rank it, the UK has much higher socialist marks than the US.

By all means, keep them coming.

monopoly? What, aside from the quoted companies of ITV, Sky and several of your own dear companies that broadcast here, together with Chanel4, Classic FM, Capital Radio and sundry other radio companies you mean? Some monopoly :)

So let's think about this for just one short second.

8 airlines merge into 4 and are accused of colluding in price fixing

and then

US company cries foul of a takeover because it could lead to an increase in prices. Could this be because Electrolux is not an American co., but a Swedish one? Just saying...

Answers on a postcard please. No essays necessary. ;)

Classic FM is dinky radio station. BBC monopolises the media and radio. Channel is a public service channel established as "fourth" television service in the UK. It is publicly funded. That sounds socialist. You have a monopoly under the guise of an oligopoly. There are four television services with full or partial state control. That's more than socialist, it's communist.

Channel 4 is not publicly funded

"Unlike the BBC, Channel 4 receives no public funding. It is funded entirely by its own commercial activities. Most of our income comes from advertising revenue. You can find out more about advertising sales on Channel 4's dedicated advertising sales website."

:LOL: you're incorrigible, dear chap. Your skill in bending facts, inventing facts, ignoring facts and drawing wild conclusions from such devious antics is worthy of a certain Prime Minister who is also kicking against the pricks at the moment.

Channel 4 is owned by Channel Four Television Corporation, which was a wholly owned subsidiary of the IBA is now a statutory corporation. For those of you that do not know what a statutory corporation is, it is one created by statute. Hmm who makes statutes? It powers are defined by Parliament (government). They almost never have shareholders. They are bodies created to provide a "public" service. Public is the opposite of private. They are owned by governments or national bodies in the government. Examples include railways and post office.

Now who is incorrigible.

I have had our spots and stripes bird brain friend on ignore for the last 3 days ! Bliss. Don't suppose I missed much ?

er, well I don't care if you leave C4 out. Doesn't amount to a whole row of beans in correcting your contention of the BBC as a state run monopoly does it? Or are you engaging in diversionary tactics again?

How come you can trade whilst the market's asleep btw? Is it a formal market?

You are hhiusa ;-))

Its still not telling the whole story

Channel 4 is different to the BBC - which is wholly state owned and paid for by the licence fee - which everyone with a TV has to buy annually . Channel 4 is self funded by its advertising - but is not a profit making organisation - so different to most companies

Sky TV - which is now massive in the UK and Europe was founded by Rupert Murdock - a typical Capitalist - but the Great British government stopped him owning it all - after all the scandals with his newspapers etc - maybe he was not really seen "fit" to own such an important group - ie a great example of a Government stopping a "devious and very cunning Capitalist" running amok

Controls over free Capitalism - so important in the modern 21 st century world - the US are about 3 decades behind

Diversionary tactics? It does amount to a lot. BBC is the biggest and it is state. C4 is essentially state run as it is a statutory corporation. That sounds like a state run monopoly to me. The BBC was established under royal charter, operated under agreement with the Secretary of State of Culture and funded by licensing set by the government.

That is a pathetic argument. In fact, it is not an argument at all. Channel 4 and BBC are state run.

BSkyB seals £7bn deal with Rupert Murdoch to create 'Sky Europe'. An American owning the media in the UK. We are the hegemon in all things.
