Can internet security be shared between computers

Hello All.

If you have a network with two, three or four computers attached and buy some Internet security can you share this security between the computers or do you just need to install it on the first computer as everything goes through the first computer. Can you use different security on the different computers ie Norton on one McAfee on another.

My understanding is that you apply the security software to the computer directly connected to the phone line. This is effectively the serving computer (server) to the others.

However, it depends what this security software is doing. Is it a software firewall, or anti-virus?

Individual computers in the network could still be affected by spyware etc. even with server security, as they will still use cookies when browsing.
