Rep system

I like it. Not so brash.

Suggests that you got enough votes without writing off the whole page.

And heres the cool thing .. you still have repping power.

I just repped a newbie and he got an instant 4 green bars ... perhaps that's too many from one rep?

Yeah bring back the reps. There was nothing wrong with it, just a bit of fun. Who cares if it was misleading gullible newbies?! Failing that, hwsteele's suggestion in the other thread for a rep system with different catagories might be better. Like one for lulz and one for helpful/informative posts? Or get some boffin to design a rep system that links into your trading account, the higher your gains the higher your rep, now that would be interesting to see!

its no good moaning about it now, should have voiced up in the "lets get rid" thread when you all had a chance, sounds like the greenies will be gone soon as well

Whatever you do, do away with this completely turd green bar thing before I delete every post I've ever made on this site.

yup, you give your copyright to trade2win and also your first daughter, it's all in the registration agreement

bring back some stars or something.
With my 120 odd posts my reps look the same as TD's who has been of outstanding service to many people in over 3000 posts.. That don't make sense.

Are his posts of less value to you with less 'stars'?

The way I see it, the old rep system was useful. Sure, it can fall open to abuse in some ways - friends repping other friends etc but then so is almost every aspect of life open to that same abuse. The rep system was good - I agree it doesn't say anything about your trading talent but was that ever the point of it? It showed newbies that someone found your post rep worthy for some reason: be it funny or informative etc.

Before the rep system was introduced, you got to know well enough whose posts were generally interesting and useful. Even with the somewhat larger membership we have today, that is still the case. There aren’t that many posting interesting, funny, useful or intelligent posts.

That newer members will now either have to trawl old posts and simply gather that information and form their opinions on an on-going basis is no bad thing.

The rep system was a decoy – a misleading falsehood in many cases. I have a couple of multi-star idiots (last time I suffered one of their posts anyway) on ignore and blue-dot ‘rookies’ whose infrequent posts are often eye-openers.

There’s a lot to be said for building merit (of both flavours!) through the genuine transmission of who we really are over the passage of time, rather than some artificial and in some cases quite horribly erroneous indications pasted on through a process quite unrelated to genuine quality.

The rep system was a source of amusement. Also a means of communication. Also a fun game for others.

Now it is boring. But maybe that depends what you think the board is intended to achieve.

Actually I can think of one member who hasn't posted for years. In fact he was probably the last person to delete large numbers of his public posts. And the only way you know he's still here searching for gems is that he reps the posts he likes. Thats nice.

I agree with Bramble. You get to know who might say something useful or interesting. And you get surprised by the odd blue dot post of exceptional clarity.

I like that phrase so much, I'm going to adopt a slightly paraphrased verson of it.

"Surprised by the odd blue dot of exceptional quality".
