Starting 8th July in Cardiff Australia will once again defeat England in the Ashes. The question is by how much.

4 to 1

Any doubts?

The english cricket team are a joke...

So many things wrong....Frankly I felt Pietersen and Flintoff have not contributed to their full potential so I would drop them...

The ECB selectors and fans are now angry at strauss because they are not winning...I mean what can Strauss do if hes only a reserve captain that they use when they are in trouble..

The poor guy has too much pressure on him to perform and even if he does win there is no bet he is going to stay captain...

Who knows maybe the selectors might choose flintoff to be captain...as he is an inspirational figure...

....what a load of ********

Lol no need to be rude whinging australians......:D

Na but It really was luck you guys deserved a whole lot more than us....

But it was still a draw HAHAHA.....

:D

England's best player (the rain) looks like he will play in the next test as well. If we have another great English summer (i.e. wet) then we might just scrape a draw out of the series.

The trouble with Lords is that we'll drop Monty for a seamer and lose our best batsman :)

Looks like England has a new "best player"!

ABC Sport - Dodgy decisions dent Australia's record chase

And the Andrew Strauss "catch" ... was it?
Have a look at the video on the link above.

But the shoe could have been on the other foot, and we accept the umpire's decision.
TV Action Replays make it easy for arm-chair cricketers like myself to become instant critics.

It hurts ... but that's cricket!

And Strauss has to live with his truth!

I don't think I would want to win a game based on unsportsman-like activity.

Well Done Flintoff - Take a bow!

5 for 92 in a Test match is good bowling in anyone's book, but to do that against Australia is exceptional ... imo!

Looking forward to the next bash at Edgbaston on 2nd Aug.

Regardless of the mechanics of the demise of the Aussie top order, the game was played out as an excellent example of sportsmanship on both sides.

Well done to both teams - and it really sets up a thriller now for the next.

Australia can ill afford to be found wanting again.

Looks like your prophetic words are coming true Strtrada :cry:

I was available for selection, but I didn't even get a reply to my application to join the team!:mad:

Might have had something to do with my form and fitness - and maybe the fact that I'm soon to turn 60!

Dad's Army could have batted better than the "official" Aussie team in their first innings. Luckily, we seem to be pinning you blokes against the stumps a bit in your second innings ... that looks like our only hope now.

So to square things up, here is a pic of Ricky Ponting, as YOU probably like to see him ...

... and Ponting will be leaving his legacy at the Oval ... one way or the other.

History will not be kind to him without this ONE last win - regardless of all his former victories!

And I'm taking up basketball after this disgraceful display by the Aussies.
They have only shown that they are seriously challenged in the selecting dept. The selection of Hauritz may have turned the game in our favour - but that will forever be a point of contention and conjecture.

Meanwhile, I hope Ponting and his "team" (I use the word loosely) redeem themselves over the next two days. Otherwise they and the Australian selectors should move over and retire to the Air Hockey tables in their nearest pub.

If we get beaten by this mediocre English team, then what chance do we have against India and Pakistan in October/November respectively?

And while they're at it, can they please get Ricky a new Baggy Green?

Where's your pride, man? Tradition says that you wear one cap for your entire career, but I think you have to draw the line somewhere too - that cap is a relic!

By the way - did anyone have a look at what Sportsbet or Betfair were offering before the game at The Oval got underway?

Interesting.

And one final bit of mud ... England have a new "best player" ... the crumbling pitch - another disgrace. I would think Australia would never allow such a bad patch of dirt to be offered our visitors. But the Poms obviously need a lesson in pitch presentation - it is just a crumbly, crumbling, crumbie sand trap! Bill Gordon (the groundsman) needs both a medal, and (at the same time) to be ashamed of himself, for deciding the game before the players even took the crease.

Cricket ain't what it used to be, and I'm getting grumpier and more like a Pom meself, in me old age! This Ashes Tour will go down as one of the poorest, in my book. Even if the Aussies manage a draw, or a win, it won't change much - poor exposition of the game - wonderful display of what's wrong with cricket.

Don't get excited - just my view!
