Windows Technical Services Scam Phone Calls

I've had two phone calls in 5 days - both callers claimed to work for 'Windows' in the Technical Services dept'. The reason for the call is to alert me that I have a virus on my computer. I pretended not to have understood the first person and told them that we'd just accepted a quote from Everest Windows, but we'll keep them in mind if we want any replacement windows in the future - and duly hung up. The 2nd one I told them that I was recording the conversation and would pass the file onto the police and other regulatory authorities - and again hung up.

Has anyone had similar nuisance calls and have you got any really good put downs or responses so I can be prepared for the next time I get one of these calls?

Had quite a few of them too, there was also a bit in the local rag on how a few victims had handed over CC details and lost a few quid. On the plus side you can drag out the conversation and then reel off all the porn sites you've visited which could have given you the virus.(y)
 
Get them regularly. they are trying to sign you up for a monthly support service. I have no idea whether it is legit or not, but they will ask for your credit card details.

I have also registered with the telephone preference service but there is little they can do about it because the callers are either international or companies that do not care about your name being on such a list.

Best way i found of dealing with them is to let them start talking and just leave them to it while you get on with whatever it is you were doing.

I get tmem now and again. I simply say I am pensioner and cannot afford to have a computer but I always listen to Radio 4:LOL:
phone goes down(y)
 
When I get this kind of call I say yes can you just hold a minute and then put the phone next to me and ignore it and after about 5 to 10 minutes they hang up.
 
I get them all the time. I just say I don't have Windows but have a Nokia. They give up immediately.
