I'd rather rely on wisdom than luck, but luck too can play a part.

In my opinion it would be wisdom. Any old Joe can have a fair share of luck, but if you have wisdom and get a fair share of luck on top of that you have a better chance of succeeding in whatever you are doing. If you have to rely only on luck, well, good luck with that :)

Depends whether we are talking about Good luck or Bad luck.

I would argue that you need wisdom in order handle both types of luck successfully.

If trading was simply gambling then the answer would be luck.
Since successful trading is mainly other things the luck element is reduced to to a minor level and only due to randomness and unpredictability. So the answer is wisdom if you're a successful trader and luck (bad) if you're unsuccessful......at least in your own mind.......

I donot know how old you guys are. In my life, I saw many wise people who did not succeed, while some average or stupid people can be successful. Human is very small, no matter how you work hard, you can not do anything if you have a really bad luck. Of course, a fair share of luck is enough. But just like wealth, 20% of people have 80% of wealth in the world, I donot know luck is shared evenly. Especially for a key project for you, if you have a bad luck in your key step, you really cannot make it.

re 2 x posts above: Wisdom doesn't guarantee success nor does hard work but they they improve the odds, and without them the odds lessen dramatically...better to rely on these than the vaguaries of luck - this is one variable no one can control unlike getting wise/hard work...worry about the things you can affect and get good at them.

I think wisdom is more important than luck. But somtimes, just 1% og luck will decide all. :cheesy:

You are right. We can not control luck, but we can work hard. That is another matter. However, what I am talking about is which is more important for success, not what we should do if we want to succeed.
If, I mean if, if you really agree luck plays a much more important role in success, then you can change a lot. You will just enjoy your life and give too much care to success, because success can not be pursued.

Luck and wisdom (experience) are like weighing scales.

When you start out in anything you rely heavily on luck to make up for less experience. As you do something for longer you begin to tip the scales and rely less on luck and more on wisdom, although I think everyone would agree that luck still helps out every now and then!

If God say, I can give you a wish: choose luck or wisdom, which do you select?
I donot know what would you choose, but I would rather choose luck.
As everyone knows, wise people usually feel unhappy, because they know many things lying ahead. While many average persons enjoy their lives, wise ones may begin to worry about the potential threat.

Wisdom = knowing when to get it
Luck = how far it runs in your favour
Wisdom = being able to take advantage of the luck

We'll never know the truth about that, because the lucky ones give us load of bull about how clever they are. In fact, if they get lucky too many times they set themselves up as vendors so that others can get lucky, too. At a price.

I agree! If my wife tells me I'm going to get lucky tonight I know it's going to cost me
