Ukraine invasion

How the West is helping Russia to fund its war on Ukraine

How much is Russia still making?

Proceeds made from selling oil and gas are key to keeping Russia's war machine going.

Oil and gas account for almost a third of Russia's state revenue and more than 60% of its exports.

In the wake of the February 2022 invasion, Ukraine's allies imposed sanctions on Russian hydrocarbons. The US and UK banned Russian oil and gas, while the EU banned Russian seaborne crude imports, but not gas.

Despite this, by 29 May, Russia had made more than €883bn ($973bn; £740bn) in revenue from fossil fuel exports since the start of the full-scale invasion, including €228bn from the sanctioning countries, according to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), external.

The lion's share of that amount, €209bn, came from EU member states.

EU states continued importing pipeline gas directly from Russia until Ukraine cut the transit in January 2025, and Russian crude oil is still piped to Hungary and Slovakia.

Russian gas is still piped to Europe in increasing quantities via Turkey: CREA's data shows that its volume rose by 26.77% in January and February 2025 over the same period in 2024.

Hungary and Slovakia are also still receiving Russian pipeline gas via Turkey.

I support stopping the war and see Russia as a European ally. A better one than the US.

Trade and good relations always better than disagreements and war.

Agree with the second sentence.

Let's remember that Russia is the aggressor in this war. I think some posters don't want to accept that

No. There is no threat to Russia . . .
If you think that RT, I recommend you go back through the thread and read, listen and watch the vast quantity of evidence that proves the contrary. Even our own shadow PM has admitted as recently as a week ago on Sunday in an interview with Trevor Phillips on Sky News that this is a proxy war by the west against Russia!!!
😎

No. There is no threat to Russia. Russia has not been invaded. Russia is the aggressor.

How would you feel if your next door neighbour - that you weren't getting along with, placed some American Pitt Bulls in their garden?

Would you wait for one of your children or grand children got attacked before you reacted?

NATO expansion that aggressively expanding so called defensive alliance is the real aggressor here.

If you went to your local council to complain and they said to you don't be silly your neighbour is entitled to do what they liked in their own borders would that pacify your worries or concerns.

You are not being realistic if you forgive me for pointing it out bluntly.

As before if the shoe was on the other foot, why did Kennedy threaten to attack Cuba if it ever hosted Warsaw pact weapons?

US and EU knew exactly what they were doing buying out Zelensky and pushing NATO to Russia's borders. Contrary to assurances given to Gorbachov.

Hi Tim,

Have you heard from CV or know what's happening with him? I've also offered some chess games and I get no replies.

I'm almost tempted to message him directly to ask if his ok.

Anybody else know if our CV is ok?

You don't need to read that to know that Germany invaded Poland in 1939 and that Russia invaded Ukraine.
Every war has his (hi)story before it started, also WW II.

Well I certainly wouldn't attack the neighbour, nor kill the dogs and invade the garden. That would be a massive over-reaction.

There are always reasons for things. But those won't change the facts. Russia rolled tanks into Ukraine. Not the other way around. Ukraine is not a member of NATO.

3 years of Russia being the aggressor and still you don't see it.

So carry on blaming the West for a proxy war and give Russia a free pass while people die in Ukraine?
