Does anyone have anything to say for, or against, Twitter?

I haven't joined up but I'm tempted, probably because I'm at a loose end at the moment.
I realise that one mustn't give away too many secrets on the web, so I'm inclined to stay with you lot most of the time. The trouble is that , here, you only think of two things.
ie, "It" and the means to pay for it. :)

Hi mate, and what would that be then ???

:LOL::LOL::LOL:

twitter, I dunno, I haven't joined yet, gosh, I dunno, but seems like if you want to be on all these things, here, facebook, twitter etc etc, you'll be spending most of the day chitchatting and flirting with others, and not get a whole lot done else.

That's why I took my half year break here btw, I was just spending way too much time posting, and missing trades.

Stay with us Split - hold the line. (y)

Are you not entertained? :whistling

Nothing to stop you twitting here and entertaining us... Personally I would keep away from facebook and twitter as you have no right over your data. FaceBook seems like they are a law onto them selves.

I always wondered where your name Splitlink comes from? Few words not about you but meaning of Splitlink - I would find interesting to quench my curiousity. :?:

Ok, you've convinced me! I am a bit paranoid about giving away personal data over the internet and getting bichos on my hard disk that spy on me all the time. Just wondered whether I might be missing something.

When I first started posting I thought up all sorts of usernames, Crowsnest, etc.. nonsence like that, something associated with my nautical background. But they were all taken and, because I was in a hurry I had to think of a word that was unlikely to be in use, so I thought of splitlink.

It's the link in the anchor cable that can be broken so that, if the occasion arises, the anchor can be slipped. The cable is separated into fifteen fathom lengths and, when slackening the cable, the bell is struck, one for every shackle out, so that the bridge knows. These are studded and rounded, like the other links, so that the cable does not get tangled and caught coming out of the locker and over the windlass.

Lesson over. :D

You are right to be paranoid imo...

I believe that you have something like this in mind, especially since you have come back from there.:D

I'm talking about the beer, of course.

I don't know how people find the time for all these different ways of electronic communication.

When I see two people sitting just a few feet apart exchange jokes via mobile phone without saying a single word I think the world's gone mad.

 we are losing the human touch.

Do you all remember that scene from 'Demolition Man'?
when Stallone and Sandra Bullock are going to have cybersex, just one in front of other, without physical contact?

Btw, I find twitter and facebook pretty interesting and useful. It depends on how do you use it. I'm also quite reluctant to share many details over internet.

But it is great to keep in touch with those friends far away :p

Haha of course, of course.

:D

Interesting about your name there, didn't know that.

I got mine out of Liar's Poker: Rising Through the Wreckage on Wall Street

Excellent book that !

Just looked up the book BSD and in short summary I read:

"As described by Lewis, liar's poker is a game played in idle moments by workers on Wall Street, the objective of which is to reward trickery and deceit."

Pretty much sums up financial markets.

I predict in the next 100 years markets and governments will be reformed to something that has never been seen before. Creative Destruction will take place. :!:

I'm 77 :D I guess I should be ok for a short while.

Haha, can't really fault that can one.

The book really shows that nothing much has changed since Lewis wrote it, it's a real classic by now, excellently written, highly entertaining - he is a really funny writer and will have you laughing your head of many times -, just an all around great read that's a must for any traders or even just people interested in finance.

Split, great going mate, you've seen a thing or two then in 77 years.

I know what "it" is, for a start. But I want to emphasise that I have been straight since the day I first saw my Missus and that is 48 years ago.

That does not mean to say that I cannot admire, though! I see "it" from your perspective. (y)

Does that mean before the age of 29 you were not straight :)

I do believe that the circulation of this thread is going up.

I shall have to bring more photos into my trading comments in future. They attract even the most venerable posters! :D

I think I've been out of the country too long. There is something here that I don't get
