Tasers

Sorry can't remember the name of the PLC in US that I saw on bloomberg Telly a couple months back discussing their swelling order book for tasers etc. BUT

They said 10% of the US market was from "citizen" ownership of tasers for their own protection etc (maybe a new slant to the song and the op for a topical re-release of the song " I am a one in ten", from ub40 ? )and the rest mainly law agencies, gov etc.

Now my questions are, would you own a taser and get tooled up in the uk or where you live, do you already own one ? thinking of getting one ? And anyone know if citizens are allowed to carry them out in public for their own protection ? :)

I don't see why not, I mean, equality for all and all that...... Can we get "tooled up" in the UK with a taser yet ?

Should we, or can we be allowed to carry them as a self defense weapon ?

Want I am scrabbling to get to is this..

Do you need a license to carry/own a taser ? Or is it for Crown Corporate employee's only ?

Should the Police carry/use them? Only if the Public are allowed to carry them as protection. What is scary is 30 thousand Plod tooled up and poor Johnny Public being cattle proded about with no fair recourse and access to lawful self defense of his limbs. Plod or not, No one is above the Law, and that includes Police Officers.

if you carry a taser in the uk is illigal and carrys with it the same penalty's as if you had a fire arm

I got stopped by the plod recently late on a saturday night on my way back home, checking for drink drivers. I found it rather unsettling to see a "Taser" clearly labelled and standing at the ready in his holster.
You really cant afford to make one mistake in such a situation. Just be really passive and do exactly as they say. Dont give them any excuse to try and justify pulling out the taser.
Luckily, he didnt see a need to breathalise me, as i was really calm and alert, and was quickly on my way again. But its easy to see how an innocuous situation could easily get out of hand with the law. A tiny bit of aggression or non-co-operation and a stressed or in a bad mood copper could quickly pull out the taser.

It would be more unsettling to see a 9mm automatic ready in the holster. In my view the taser offers the police and the guilty an chance to sudue / be subdued and survive.

There will be more than just a "tiny bit of aggression or non-co-operation" required before the police can use a taser.

im sorry but your a mongo if your worried you might get tasered for being pulled over in a routine drink driving check

Guys, go to youtube and type in "police" & "taser". You will see how readily the police, often in the US, will pull out the taser, for the smallest of reasons.

No Plods tasering me. My timing is ****e when pulling the trigger at
trading but i sh*t you not. By the time he just about to pull that
trigger ill already have my c*ck out and a steady stream of p*ss
will be on its way to hit the f*cker right between the eyes just as the
bolt of electricity belts into me.

Comon plod gimme your best shot. :rambo:

I woulnt want to be the pig that tries tasering me. Assuming i pulled through, I'd know his every movement within a week....

Overall, cops are no different to civilians. Some are complete arrogant twits, the majority, are nice and easy going good guys.

Diabetic in coma shot with Taser out of fear he was suicide bomber

"A man who slipped into a diabetic coma on a bus was shot twice with a Taser gun because police mistook him for an Arab suicide bomber.

Nicholas Gaubert, 34, had left work and was on his way to meet friends when he suffered a hypoglycaemic attack on the top deck of a bus in Leeds. When he was found slumped in his seat at the end of the journey, clutching a black rucksack, the bus driver became suspicious and an armed police unit was called into action.

Firearms officers boarded the empty vehicle, which had arrived at a bus depot, and, when the helpless man was unable to respond to their instructions, they shot him twice with the electric stun gun. When he later came round, handcuffed, in the back of a police van, Mr Gaubert, a call-centre worker, thought initially that he had been kidnapped. He was told that he had been arrested as a suspected terrorist.

Only when Mr Gaubert explained that he had diabetes and needed urgent medical attention did the police take him to hospital, where they insisted that he should remain in handcuffs during his treatment. He says that when West Yorkshire Police finally realised they had detained an innocent man, he was offered only a half-hearted apology and told that officers had thought he “looked Egyptian”. ...

Begin Rant >

I do not think the Police should be armed with tasers, I think the "terror threat" and continued perceived "threat to the nation" is being used as a reason for introducing more effective mass surveillance & control measures to monitor civilians en-masse.

Western societies seem to be going backwards with "being OK" in electrocuting fellow humans . Why are our schools not teaching peace, love ,acceptance & tolerance of our neighbours ?

You see all these adverts on TV in the UK about educating and raising awareness about people who may have disabilities and them not being able to respond like "normal ability" individuals when out in public ? Great , I hope the Police are aware of that ?

Only as in the above article, that chaps "failure to respond properly" resulted in him being electrocuted .

Another thing, everyone has the right to say absolutely nothing AT ALL TIMES if they want to. Does that when mean you are not responding properly ? And at risk or being electrocuted ? (looks like it, what a lovely place to live)

Statute Legislation Has Gone Mad ! Those are policies for the benefit of the Crown Corporation and not Common Law of the people. And this land is supposed to still be a Common Law Jurisdiction.

Please sir can we have some more..... yes thousands more statutes from the EU please lets bury the Kingdoms Common Law and hoodwink people to think Statute Legislation drawn up by commercial entities is LAW OF THE LAND.

End Rant > :cheesy:

Thanks Crap B

thats the story i was after, just couldnt remember where it happened or the details.
That is appalling.
The man should have been awarded £X million in compensation and the pigs should have been imprisoned.
The countries gone.

Pigs stop you driving along for no reason. They lie and make an excuse - saying - you swerved into the middle of the road, you were over hesitant, you didnt indicate etc. Just so they can add another breath test to their quota.

They'll lie to stop you, and they'll lie once theyve tased yer.

I agree. In a violent, anarchic and anti-social society, the police should only be armed with bad breath and harsh language. That will win them the respect they so richly deserve.

Honeymonster,

You do know this is the cop they found dead on the Moors afetr drinking a
bottle of spirits and then he took his clothes off to die of cold. Maybe the
bolt did something to him as it was only like a few months after he did
himself in.

Ged

No i didnt know that. That is interesting to know. There may well be some link.

I know they used to use electric shock treatment for depression (not a veryu good idea). Perhaps it has/had the opposite effect.
