It has recently come to the attention of the staff of Financial Chat http://www.financialchat.com that there is a major bug and potential security hole in older versions of mIRC released before Feb 3rd 2002 (version 6.0)

** NOTE ** This does NOT affect users of the java chat located on our site http://www.financialchat.com/forums/ or on any of our affiliates and partners currently running the java chat. This only applies to users of mIRC.

mIRC is the most popular chat program and a majority of our users are currently running it. We felt it to be important to let this group know about this and how to correct a potentially dangerous situation. With the current state of the market, the last thing you need is someone being able to take over your computer (although for some of us they might be an improvement.)

**** The flaws only affect versions of mIRC up to, and excluding, the latest release, version 6.0 ****

An Irish security consultant published details this weekend of two software bugs in a popular chat program--bugs that could be used to install malicious programs on a victim's computer.

It's imperative for the safety of yourself, your online associates and our network, that if you are a current mIRC user, you download and install the latest version.

The latest version can be found here: http://www.mirc.com/get.html

The Financial Chat team works hard everyday to keep the network up and running and we'd be appreciative if everyone does their part to maintain the security and integrity of the network.
