Prop Shop in Sydney?

true for most i guess.. but not for propex.

all interviews with propex will be with either the trainer of the grad course, the trading manager and/or the owner of the firm.

HR interviews are just screening interviews to make sure of a few things before we take up trader time (which is expensive)...

we use a combination of testing and screening to select candidates suitable for interview by traders

they will only screen someone out at that point under unusual circumstances (such as background check issues, reference issues, work permit issues or if your personality is grossly unsuitable for our company)

we value individuality and diversity so our HR are not there to make the call on who the traders will like or not

hope that helps

Thanks very much for your response!!! One of the most important reasons why I got rejected was told by that HR who interviewed me that I showed too much interest or too much passion or my tone was too high. Is that a real reason? She told me Tibra could support work permit anyway....

Typical HR response idiots :(

that's whack, HR rejected you because of that? the problem with HR is that they don't know what makes a good trader, so how are they suppose to know what to look for in a candidate, someone who is showing passion is a good thing, i was a IT recruitment consultant for 5 years previously and when i interview candidates for a job i wanted to see interest and passion about a role!!

I still remember I said by the end of the interview: " I was interested in the position even before I came here for interview, but now I am more certain than ever that I really want this job." That HR gave me that example to tell me that I really should not have said something like that because that made me sound overbearing, and then she said something like my tone was too high..... I guess the real problem is I did not hold a work visa, and I could only apply for 2-year post-study work visa, so the work permit problem must be one of the reasons.

Advice for the financial, math and logic test

hi tobi99

i m currently trading with propex I started out as a graduate trainee with them about 18 month ago, its a fantastic place to work especially if u wanna be a speculator. We have traders here who use to work for optiver and other market making firms. What we do and what market makers do are very different. I know optiver and imc are both 100% delta hedged so you are not allow to speculator.

All depends on wat u wanna do I guess, u might also have a look into transmarket, I think their the biggest prop shop in aus, they do mostly bonds.

Hi Joffre,

Great to hear actual people from at propex responding to these threads.
I have been invited to join come for a 30 min financial makets, math and logic test this thursday.

I would greatly appreciate if you could give me a heads up on what I need to know and what they might ask.

Any details would be much appreciate it.
Hope to pass and maybe meet you there.

Mike

the maths and logic tests are as easy as they get.. imagine the tibra test as the hsc and the propex one as yr8 science competition.

financial markets test can be trickier but you will be fine if you are interested in markets and have been doing readings.

regards
Douche

Since 2005. The predecessor to Propex was L Quay which was a SFE specialist firm. The broking operation was eventually sold to BrokerOne (now part of Man Financial). What was left-of-it-ish became Propex.

Last year was a good year for most traders, their salaries ranged from 2 to 5 BIRRION DORRARS. you heard it here first :p

I am invited to the interview session at propex tommorow, but its likely I wont be able to get down there in time. Do they recruit every 6 months or so?
