Larry Levin Secrets of Traders

I am a student in Larry's Trading Advantage course. I have learned a LOT in the year I've been with them. I started out learning the scalping techniques, and have moved on to learning the Market Profile swing trades. I am a MUCH better trader. Patrick Assalone is a GREAT teacher! Although Dan calls trades in his scalping room, Patrick "teaches you how to fish" so you can see the trades yourself, and don't need someone else to call them. I am happy I joined - I think it's an investment with good return!

To win in many endeavours it's necessary to have a slight edge over the competition. Anyone who has been trading for a length of time knows that. Last summer I mentioned my intent to trade, and a woman said she had tried trading forex for a few months, couldn't succeed, and concluded that it's nothing more than gambling. It seems she didn't have any edge at all. I've heard of people taking years to just begin to trade profitably, and this woman thinks she should be able to make a killing at it with no training or experience, and if she can't, then nobody can. Some of the comments in this forum seem to reflect a similar attitude: "Give me the concise formula for success, but if you can't do that, you're a shyster." If trading was as easy as some like to think it should be, almost everyone would be doing it and almost nobody would be making a significant income with it.
A slight edge in trading comes with application of several components, including determination, attitude, planning, and of course, training. Anyone can take a stab at something new, give up on it, and give it a failing grade without having put significant effort into it. I've been using Trading Advantage materials, taking the classes, following the trading rooms, etc. since September. I'm still paper trading because I want to be sure my trades are consistently and adequately profitable before using real money, and I'm almost there. Learning and applying the concepts taught in the course is simple, but not easy because success requires changes in thought patterns, understanding of market concepts (the greatest edge I see in TA), preparation for trade execution, planning every trade, trading the plan, etc. Perhaps it comes easier to some than it does to me. Anyway, every week I see improvements in my understanding and application. The concepts and instruction are solid. I have almost captured my slight edge, and from where I sit it's clear that when I do, I won't have any concerns about income or retirement. I'm glad I signed up.

Wanted to see if anyone was using or has used Larry Levin (former floor trader at the CME). I bought his book How I made $1,900,386.82 a while back and it is decent. Prolly need to reread it to get a better feel for it all. I ignore most of the email solicitations I get from his site as there is just to much to read and everything can't be "that" important.

So yesterday I get a call which I happened to be home so I answered, and it was someone from his sales crew selling mentorships. It's 4 weeks 1 hour daily web cast, archived if you miss it (M-Th) and Friday you are in the trading room where they feed you trades. $1500 for a stack of reading material and the web stuff.

1) I don't like the idea of being fed trades as I want to be able to see them for myself and act upon it.

2) I really don't want another thing to read that will teach me to be a great trader.

3) Has anyone else done this course? I don't mind paying for services but I prefer ones with warranty's or $$ back if... and I'd prefer not to get a refresher education for $1500 when I could drop that $1500 on a cruise instead...

thoughts?

Larry Levins course is for those who are willing to study the materials, go to the classes, listen, ask questions and can follow direction. The people who dont succeed are the ones who dont study, dont go to class, and try to follow the trades without understanding the techniques and methods. It is a quality education and well worth the $$.

what happened to pitnoise ?

Since the S@P pit (open outcry) is slowly moving towards electronic trading, they have eliminated the pit noise altogether. You can SEE what the institutions are doing through Larrys Virtual Trading Room.

1) The trades are called as soon as the setup is recognized. You can see the charts, and if you apply what you learn, you can decide to trade or pass on any trade. You can trade if you recognize something that hasn't been called. It's your decision.
2) Would you rather be a not-so-great trader? There are concepts to be learned that you likely won't find elsewhere.
3) I've done the course. It's not a refresher on generic trading techniques. I'm still paper trading while following until my record is adequate for live trading. I can take any class again or view an archived video whenever I want to. There are two trading rooms to choose from. You can follow one or both.

"On Oct. 26, 2010, after a very coercive phone call, from a Trading Advantage Sales Rep, I completed a purchase agreement for a trading program having to do primarily with the futures markets. The respective course materials were received promptly within a day or two. I perused the manuals over the following week and was not satisfied with what I had seen. Most specifically, a section of the course material depicted very significant content (graphic market profiles) printed so small it was virtually impossible to read with my normal reading glasses. Not acceptable. After the week had passed, I had received nothing by email to confirm my enrollment; commencement date; receipt of my funds paid ($2600); invoice for balance owing ($900); website info; course schedule; etc. There had been no follow-up support what-so-ever, so I decided to contact Customer Support. The call was made during business hours and I was directed to voicemail. I left a message that I had made a decision to not commence with the program, return the course materials and requested a refund. I sent a prompt follow-up email to their billing rep, to so advise. Emails have been submitted to Trading Advantage, concisely outlining my objections and intentions, yet now, three months later, response has been minimal and I have still not seen any serious effort to resolve. I have still not received any typical follow-up correspondence. I have checked the Tracking Number for the returned package and discovered, that on Nov. 11 it was "refused by recipient. Item being returned to sender" (me). I conveyed that status to the sales rep by email. At no time have I been advised by Trading Advantage that my package would not be, nor, had not been, accepted. As of this writing, I have not yet received the returned package nor have I yet received any express indication of intent to refund my money, or not. The Trading Advantage approach, it would seem, is to keep my money, ignore this issue and presume it will go away. As far as I am concerned, however, their silence is, at the very least, frustrating and their conduct has exemplified substandard business practice.
I have been advised a final notice deadline from the Better Business Bureau has passed without response and so it would appear that, Traders Advantage has chose to ignore them as well.
Looks like I'm S.O.L. and ripped for a $2600 lesson.
Beware!!!"

Due to the proprietary nature of Trading Advantage’s educational course material and intellectual property, all new students are required to sign a written non-disclosure agreement before completing the purchase and subsequently receiving the aforementioned course material.

Furthermore, the agreement explicitly states that that all sales are final, and subscriptions to any services are nonrefundable. The complainant had signed the written contract and received Trading Advantage’s proprietary course materials, thus activating the non-disclosure agreement and rendering a refund impossible.

It is also imperative to note that the Better Business Bureau has not contacted Trading Advantage regarding any complaints from the petitioner, and our overall record with the BBB, as well as our thousands of other customers, is exemplary.

We strive to maintain excellence in customer service and satisfaction within certain legal parameters which we’re bound to. Any issue that has ever arisen from the BBB in the past has been resolved to the consumer's satisfaction.

I was really new to trading when I signed up with TA, and was quite overwhelmed at first - the amount of material and trading techniques, so it took some time and work, but was well worth it. The support is great, including lessons and recordings, printed materials, questions/answers, training calls with Patrick (MP) and Larry Levin; and my sales rep. is always available to help. Market Profile (MP) trading room is irreplaceable in understanding of the overall picture of the market and gives accurate support/resistance areas to work with, and teachers in both rooms (and advanced students) are there to answer questions. They call out the trades, but the emphasis is on developing your own trading style. The program covers all aspects of trading, including discipline and emotions. Another great feature is continuous improvements/additions to the program. It does seem a bit pricey, but cheaper than college education, and potential is a lot greater. I'd highly recommend this program as I believe it could make you a great consistent trader.

Yes, you could call them Marketing Members or less politely Larry's Spam Spittles.

I have known many would-be traders that spent thousands of dollars trying to learn to trade successfully through some cookie-cutter program, or lost even more to the markets trying to learn on their own, and finally gave it up altogether. I was one of them until I found Secrets of Traders. A few years ago, I lost my trading money relying on a broker without having a proven method of my own. It was several years before I accumulated enough extra money to take another run at it. I decided to give some money to a mentor this time and learn how to trade profitably, rather than give twice that much to the market and still be experimenting. Most of the programs I checked out seemed similar and all used the same indicators. I chose Secrets of Traders because Larry Levin has been a floor trader at CBOT for 20 years, and doesn't just teach the same indicators everybody else uses. I have learned how to trade following the methods of actual CBOT traders who use tools I had never seen on the run-of-the-mill trading websites. Normal indicators show what has already happened, or what "might" happen. The tools one learns in Secrets of Traders show you what is actually happening volume & price-wise, in time to get in on the move. The reps at Secrets are all available for questions at any time. There are 2 separate Virtual Trading Rooms that trade with different goals. The student can identify the trading goal that he/she is most comfortable learning, and is then mentored in how to apply those methods in a very customer service oriented, daily VTR environment. It's not "easy" learning to be patient and learning to use new tools in a fast moving, real time market. But, it's much easier than the frustration of watching your trading account dwindle to nothing because you haven't learned how to "read" the market and trade like a professional instead of an amateur. I would recommend Secrets of Traders to anyone willing to forget the old unsuccessful ways and learn a new, proven way to join the ranks of consistently profitable traders.

Business Name: Trading Advantage

You recently requested our help concerning a problem with the company named above. The company has not responded to the Bureau to date, therefore a final notice has been sent to the business requesting they respond by January 31, 2011. If you have heard from the company please contact me at [email protected].

You will receive written notification if we receive a response from the business. You will receive written notification in this event.

Search Complaint ID#: 94326296 in the Chicago BBB and you will see my complaint record that says, Trading Advantage was contacted and non-responsive. JC

Regardless of anything JustinVFutures has stated, non-existant, non-responsive customer support is not what I bargained for. When you don't get what you've paid for, a contractual obligation has been breached and a refund is by no means "impossible".

Fair enough gamma. My personal experience with Secrets has been good. I've applied myself seriously trying to learn what they teach with an unbiased attitude. However, sim success in their VTR doesn't count. So, after a few months of live trading what I've learned there, I'll post my results here, good or bad. If good, the results will speak for themselves. If bad, I won't waste any time blasting Larry Levin on this thread. There's a focus on negativity here. Ultimate success mirrors our constant attitude. Instead, I'll just move on with a positive attitude in my search to become the best trader I can be. Everybody clicks with different people & different situations. There does seem to be a lot of good info on other parts of this website. I'll check some of it out. Always open for positive direction.

Thanks for your reply,
I look forward to your future posts
I would like to address The comment you made about negativity on this forum
A lot of long term members who post these negative comments like myself are very much against costly courses that the earth and promise the holy grail.

Having been told first hand from a city trader that there is no holy grail I find it very annoying when I see people being charged these ridiclous amounts for information you can get for free.
I make a decent living from trading but no where near as much as I would do if I started selling courses and training aspiring traders my catholic upbringing has installed a sesnse of guilt in me which stops me taking advantage of people's vulnerability.

On my post's I am a great recemmonder of Babypips for technical analysis
and a great admirir of BBMAC, his teaching is the closest thing to a holy grail as one can get.and all for free.I will go as far as saying come trade with me for free and if you are not profitable in a couple of months making a decent living then you do not have the capacity or ability to trade and this is not the profession for you.
