What is this guy on?!?

He protests his innocence at every opportunity, yet he's been caught with pornography of underage children on his PC in the UK, then he moves to a country (Cambodia) which is, if you'll believe the press, a bit of a hub for underage sex tourism, gets deported from one country, moves to another (Vietnam) with similar credentials (Again, no offence intended here - just the press' take on it. And I've seen some pretty suspect goings-on in Cambodia myself) and is then arrested, tried and put in jail.
I'd like to believe this guy is innocent (indeed, I'd like to believe that all this business doesn't happen!) but really.........

What do we reckon?

Guilty beyond all reasonable doubt... I mean, come on!

I don't like the idea that the UK government can punish you for crimes committed abroad though...

I dont really care what happens

he seems a sick old paedophile

Send him to jail!

i find it hard to have an opinion on/understand all these paedos. Being a paedo in itself, the thought of being sexually aroused by children and wanting to have sexual relations with them, is just so strange. I just dont get it.

Press coverage makes it practically impossible to make a fair judgement.

Either way, the herd mentality of people mean he's screwed, innocent or otherwise - popular culture will rule over reason and he'll get lynched. Look what happened to Spanish!

The more unscrupulous among us will run a book on how long before he's in hospital.

Q. How do you know when it is bedtime at the Glitter residence?
A. When the big hand touches the small hand.
Seriously, he needs castration or some sort of preventative treatment because it is fairly obvious he cannot control himself. I personally hope he ends up with no option but to come back to Britain. Not being able to leave his house (for fear of harrassment from the public) and being under constant scrutiny by the police is, I think, a suitable punishment.

Or perhaps locking him up in a cell with Michael Jackson is the answer....

Maybe thats an idea for a new reality TV program -

Celebrity Peadophile Rehab.

Yes, but in this case mr glitter really is a witch. Not a paediatrician, or someone who looked at a picture of Samantha Fox topless aged 16, or a middle aged man.

He actually molests children

Lets face it, if he wasn't a sick peado he wouldn't be holidaying in thailand cambodia & vietnam.

I'm not saying all that go to these places are peados definately not, but in his case it just seems a big coincidence. Its not like he was there for the scuba diving.

 There's torture for you! The guards prod them with cattle-prods if they stop singing....

Q: What does Gary Glitter have after dinner?
A: Under-eights

*ugh*

Or maybe he'll release of Elton John's song: Don't let your son go down on me........

...completely tasteless...

And for the record - what I saw in Cambodia wasn't dodgy. Basically an over-enthusiastic hotel porter decided to get me a woman while I was out eating dinner, and when I came back, there was a hooker waiting for me in reception who looked no older than about 14. He seemed very disappointed when I told him 'no'. Tried to pull me back towards her a few times. Considered some kung fu, but most of these people are armed... so I just stated no very authoritatively and marched off to my room.

The question is, did that guy think it was normal for white tourists to want an underage girl? Or did I unwittingly stay in the wrong hotel?

Either way, I agree that guilty or no, Glitter's personal safety could not be guaranteed in the UK.

It doesn't really matter if he was innocent or guilty. The media have blackballed hinm and thats that.

Another similar media blackballing is the "drugs cheat" Dwain chambers. Forgetting that he has served his punishment and is still Britains best sprinter, the media & BAA seem intent on destroying his career & credibility as best they can.

thanks, that's just the kind of sweeping generalisation we need.
there's no more child sex available (or at least visibly so) than any other country and people don't generally come here specifically for it.
I suspect Glitter was out here becuase he is skint and the cost of living is cheaper - his royalties, such as they may be, would certainly go much further out here.

if you're going to make sweeping generalisations about countries with bad records on (child) sex crimes then why not also mention Austria, France, Belgium....Scotland, Jersey ??

i think you've been sucked into this whole media thing......

who looked no older than about 14.

i'm not defending it if thyat was the case, but i think thats above the legal age there anyway ?

but my point is, she "looked" 14 - my wife who is 29 can "look" 14 with the right make-up on. How old was your potential visitor really, she may have been 16,17, 18 ?

The thing those place's have in common - all major distribution of counterfeit goods.
Also, paedophilia is a mental illness; they can't help what they think but they can help what they do.

Either way, gary is a weirdo, so i don't care what happens.

Dunno what the legal age is, admittedly.

I take your point, and maybe I'm just demonising. But on the other hand, the Cambodian govt. was lobbied to expel him by childrens' rights groups based upon the fact that they wanted to be seen to be cracking down on child sex tourists.

Maybe ur right on the royalties front - and ur also right that the UK is not the best place either. I said I meant no offence - and if the legal age is lower, then maybe that's why he went there. Or maybe he just wanted to lie low for a bit....

The thread was about whether people think he is guilty or not, so over and above any circumstantial points, what d'you reckon?

Maybe.
But also, i am also aware of two "men" (who work/ed with people i know) who regularly go to Thailand on sex tourism and brag about their exploits with young boys . They can't get enough of the place.
