I notice that there is an option to offer "friendship" to other members. What does friendship give that member? What does it give me?
I have offered friendship to about twenty people, and nobody responds?!

actually, I dont think the people who you want to befriend get a signal that you want to buddy up.
I only discovered people wanted to be my friend when I was messing about in my UserCP!!

I am also uncertain what function it serves as I havent noticed things like notifications that my firends have posted something, or whatever.

I take it as a sign that this person respects what i have inputted at some point, and vice versa, for received & given friendship requests.

I think the formula is just a basic facebook rip-off though, that seems popular on several forums now.

I wouldn't go so far as to say a "rip off", Just one of those gimmicks to make the site more attractive, but which does not seem to have worked for me, at least, much.

Gimmick is a good word for it.
Especially if all you know about the member is their username. But then perhaps names/addresses etc. are not necessary, and a intellectual,mutually beneficial relationship between 2 busines people is enough to be called a friendship.

you can set your profile up so only your freinds can see your blogs and things posted there ect. that's one benefit if your bouncing off trading results or strats together.

I have a similar mexhanism myself now.

If i rep another member, i wait for them to rep me, b4 i rep them back. If they don't rep me back, they don't get any more of my (123) points. Only fair!

Thats a good idea.
This type of initiative would encourage me to post some screenshots of my preferred trade set-ups for my friends & buddies to see in my blog, as i wouldn't want any thomas richard or harold being able to see my masterpieces!
