Forgive me guys, but do you really believe The "Geezer" really sat around one Saturday afternoon and created this stuff for our benefit? Perhaps, indeed, he really did put us in the centre of it (like (use of vernacular here)of everything); but then call me sceptically, if not downright circumspect in this matter.
I suspect the universe is utterly indifferent about the survival of our species on this or any other planet(s) for that matter; whioh suggests to me that we'll have to work out our own future.

There are so many mind boggling theories about the universe than one cannot even begin to comprehend them. I don't know how these people manage to reach their conclusions. The 90,000 light years one, for instance. This is just as incredible an assumption as that which said that God made everything in seven days. We, simply, do not know and I doubt that we ever will.
It is just as logical to believe that all this was made by God as it is to believe in the Big Bang. What was behind the Big Bang, in any case?
Now, that it was all put together for our benefit? I agree with you on that point. We know nothing.

It was never meant as an "Entertaining Read" or written with commercial aims in mind. In terms of popularity, it has been rivalled by the likes of "The Thoughts of Chairman Mao" but I doubt that this would have any greater claim to "X- Factor" status either.

Nothing wrong with any of the religions. It is just that, over the centuries, they have been hijacked by people for their own ends. Funny isn't it, that all the main religions have one God? How you get to the One, doesn't matter.

It very much keeps religion out of the argument (compared to, say, the scientific arguments of someone like Richard Dawkins), but goes someway to answering the 'big questions', or at least providing a feast for thought. I suppose if one can screw ones head around believing that collection of not very well made C-movie scare-tactics, cleverly selected for the greatest effect on simple people who want nothing more than to not have to think for themselves, it won't take lotsa further brain jogging exercises to give credence to Dubya-On-A-Mission-From-God-Bush's assertions as well and believe that he rescued the world from that great fiend Saddam who attacked Noo Yoark on 9-11, and was just minutes away from invading da US of A with lotsa black helicopters.
Same tactics anyway, Fearmongering-The-People-Into-Submission 101 so that the dirty deeds can proceed unhindered under the subterfuge of doing Gods work, an argument that both sides of any conflict obviously always claim for themselves as with our Siamese twins Monsieurs Bush and Osama-Bin-Forgotten at the mo, but that's just a tiny beauty blemish that shouldn't worry one unduly eh, of far greater importance is, where-oh-where can one go to actually study these tactics now that Sr. Machiavelli is dead and buried, would a viable alternative be several sessions in Sunday Church School these days me wonders?
Ah, then again, it alway takes two to tango however, and if one tries hard to recollect ones history lessons about the mostly blood drenched, hypocrisy riddled and utterly corrupt past of the Church on this planet it shouldn't prove too hard to shout Wolf to the little puppy growling out it's latest attempts at intimidation of the massses.

End of the World Cult
Did anyone else here see The End of the World Cult on C4 Wednesday night ? It was just staggering how stupid people are and how easily they are taken in by self proclaimed messiahs. The World was predicted to end on 31st October this year anyway now that it hasn't the new deadline is 15th December so I may just get a few trades in before it does.

I saw that one Paul. It was compulsive viewing. He seemed to have 'em all hypnotised or something, there was the strangest blank look on their faces (apart from his son, who was a truly sad case). Their continued faith in the guy after the world was supposed to end staggered belief.

That opinion depends heavily on perspective I'd say.
For someone like me outside the clutches of a historically mostly evil Church, a Church that through the ages had little if anything to do with a good God of Hope and Light, preferring instead to idolize a jealous and sexist God full of wrath, hatred and racism, both fatalistic outlooks have nothing at all to do with a God or a Universe of Love and Forgiveness, of Judge-not-lest-You-be-Judged, of a universally ubiquitous "Golden Rule", of a Ask,-and-You-shall-Receive, all the things, in other words, that are or can be good about us living creatures and give us hope for a future of our making, for which we have been given the freedom of choice on this level.
By contrast, Fearmongering has always been the instrument of choice whereby the few have, throughout the ages, tried to subdue the many into doing the formers bidding, doesn't matter if it's to start wars, or just basically control the hoi polloi as the Church attempted to through most parts of the Dark Ages that have their name for good reason.
And throughout the ages nothing has ever been more effective at crowd control than
A: Scaring the living daylights out of em
and then
B: Offering em eventual salvation, which depending on who is doing the scaremongering can entail anything like victory over all "enemies", real or fabricated, even if that may take generations, lol, or, even more conveniently from a control perspective, salvation in an afterlife. Whatever the case may be, salvation itself normally entails little more than toeing the line, cheering on the respective leaders while feeling great joy and happiness for their normally abundant lifestyles, and otherwise keeping the trap shut.
Not Cricket, my friend.
That is all you need to take care of while maneuvering through this dualistic life.
Bad and good are just two sides of one coin, basically everything you do just comes back to you.
Well, hmm, taken to it's logical conclusion that would mean, I suppose, that those dire predictions of gory final days would come true for some after all.

LapTop, to be honest, if I were wrong, then the choice between such a God as is depicted in that video, or his counterpart really wouldn't be great enough for me to lose too much sleep about where I'd end up, as both destinations would be roughly equally evil in my book.

But he isn't wrong. That is called having faith. One can believe in God, without being brainwashed by a bunch of hypocrites. God gave us a superior intelligence and we have to figure things out for ourselves. He can't blame us, though, for making mistakes.
we just have to believe. That's all that is required.

Who don't believe in God and do bad things
Who believe in God but still conduct them selves badly
Who don't believe in God and conduct them selves well
Who believe in God and do good things
Who believe in God and think they are doing Gods work
Who don't believe in God and are doing charitable work

God doesn't need us to believe in religion.
Humans need religion to understand their true existance. With out that binding socialising element, we are merely physical species: Mere existance...

Most people say things that are acceptable to “the group” – our friends, family and co-workers. We try really, really hard to fit the mold that we believe others would approve of. However, whenever you see someone else wandering off in what you might immediately feel is likely a weird direction, at least give ‘em a pat on the back for having the courage to be themselves and the initiative to try to blaze a new path through life.
