I've been an "independent trader" for a while now and tend to trade off longer time frames (4hrs, daily). I might not get any signals for 2 or 3 days, during which time I try to amuse myself by reading about trading, surfing trade2win, reading the Daily Mail etc. Anyone else have any tips for keeping amused? (Polite answers only)

Listen to the radio. (proper radio; like plays, serials, etc. not the daily musical dross)
Scan T2W for insurgents intent on spamming, and dispatch them.
Alternatively, wind up spammers for sport.
Read books. (not necessarily about trading)
Spread physical exercises throughout the day.
Surf the web for (more) porn.

Trading is an intensely tedious occupation.

There's something in a book I read (I think it was Van Tharp) about a fighter pilot he interviewed, who found trading more exciting that flying a jet plane. Right.. well, who knows, maybe that's true. Perhaps being a rock star is boring (sitting on a bus, waiting in airports etc.). Maybe humans get bored quickly, it's in our nature.

I don't mind having the spare time to look at other things though..

Just watching the press conference at Burbank, Clinton having rescued the two women journalists. Wonder if he would have bothered had they been men..

Ok here's a project. I can't devise a mechanical system to make money in USD/JPY. I've tried, but just can't do it. Other currency pairs are ok, EUR/USD, GBP/USD etc but "Bill and Ben" is strangely resistant.

Their sentences were epic. Something like 20 years "hard labour" which was pick-axing rocks to build a tunnel through a mountain if I'm not mistaken.

It all looked horribly staged, but Obama needs some good PR following the disaster of the Henry Gates affair. It received very little press over here.. a black professor in Boston tried to get back into his house but the door was stuck. In trying to force it, a neighbour called the police suspecting a burglary. The police came, the situation blew up and Gates was arrested (although subsequently released on no charge, as it was his own home!). In a press conference Obama stated that the police "acted stupidly" and it underlined their anti-black and anti-Hispanic bias. And so it went on, until Obama had to apologise for his remarks.... first time I've seen him make an error to be honest.

Wonder what the police did to him in his youth. I heard he was a marcher for civil rights so no doubt he got his a55 tanned a bit lol.

I'll look into that though. I want to hear what he has to say in the press conference.

Obama is not regarded as a saint over there, contrary to the way he is portrayed over here. Probably still an improvement on "W" though..

Those that find trading boring typically perform well. Those that find it exciting, generally dont.

I have to agree with you there, it's taken me over a year and a few losses to settle down and and find Trading boring.

When I'm playing golf well it's boring. Drive, iron, 2 putt par, move on. However, "exciting" golf is rarely good golf.
