I've been trading on a demo account and really doing quite well. I am seriously feeling like I will start trading in the new year....anyone really pleased with their broker who has been trading with them for the long haul, who has tight spreads and deosn thave delayed executions or too much slippage....would really appreciate that...thanks :)

It depends. You should ideally be starting small since live is totally different.

Of the spread bet companies, IG is probably your best bet.

If you like forex, you can get your feet wet with Oanda for pennies a pip. This will allow appropriate position sizing even with a small account for daily-type trades.

Futures brokers (probably not appropriate at this stage) I would say Velocity. Good overall and they offer a package where commissions are reasonable and you don't have separate platform and data costs.

Be aware this is all just my opinion. Finding a broker you're happy with is a personal thing and will probably entail a good bit of trial and error. Bear in mind that a broker might be terrible for one type of trader and ideal for another.

hey thanks so much will have a look :)

I guess there is no perfect broker now a days, issues are in every broker, but most of'em are manageable, I trade with hotforex, small issues here and there, but its manageable compared to others, Alpari is not bad. Oanda's been around for a while too. :) take your time to checkem out, a couple of weeks on trial don't sound so bad! best of luck on your future trades :)

Hey thanks for that...funny enough someone else I know who has done really well in FX uses HOT FOREX also and says they're great. They're customer service is almost immediate when you have a problem. He said once they made a mistake and compensated immediatly....also told me the spreads are tight and I have done a pretty good search of 10 top brokers and all the major pairs and Hot Forex is under the average in all of them....my friend also said they're really good with in regards to slippage...what you see is what you get...so I think Ill give them a go..for real in the new year ....they also have a few other perks so I think I'll give them a go..thank you so much for taking the time to tell me that also..kind regards :)

Why dont you take your preferred top 3 brokers and try them all out? How much are you looking to open your first account with?

My advice, keep away from MT4 brokers, its you against the house, and the house always wins.

I actually already opened my HotForex account and received a 50% bonus to my capital. Have been referred by a few who are pleased with them so Ill give then a go. I will start trading in the New Year for obvious reasons and keep you posted.

Thanks so much for your post and Merry Christmas...chat in the New Year..should be very interesting 2012 in regards to currencies and world markets.....

I am also considering Alpari and Oanda, does anyone have any details that they can share about these two brokers?

Yes we're sure, there are even videos to prove it, or at least there were until metatrader got them deleted

Perhaps not all MT4 brokers fiddle with the charts but I have read that they delay execution etc.
Which broker are you using?
I'm with GFT (using dealbook360) and so far I'm making money but I also want to try someone else.
I'm also trying 3 MT4 accounts (GFT, trading point & Pepperstone (which I've decided to close)).

all the best judith and I hope you do great with your new broker, things are looking quite brighter this year since things are improving really well :) have a good 2012 :)

if you played well on demo I guess you can do well with a good broker, where did you open your demo account ?
I have been trading with 3 different brokers for now but the main one is hotforex and they are not bad at all I mean fast execution if thats what you really looking for and also they have got a friendly support service.
any way before you consider putting your money on any company think well and see which is the more appropriate for your needs.

I would suggest you open a demo with aaafx - either mt4 or autotrading, but for a beginner autotrading seriously is the best thing out there now

The best for FX is probably FXCM. If Spread betting is your thing then City Index has a good package. If you can, go along to the expo in London in 2 weeks.

A few years ago I was at a trading presentation trying to do a little bit of networking in the allocated breaks and so on however it was made difficult by a certain individual who heckled the presenters was exceptionally rude to anybody trying to press a valid question and in general did everything he could to make his voice heard as the expert in all things trading or no. He even had at the tip of his tongue all the legal precedents why traders were prevented from making money and to be honest I would have suspected him of being a one man hedge fund broker had he not been so clueless about actually trading. He was middle aged, cannot remember much of his appearance other than he came across as a disorganised piece of shiite with an air of disagreeablity about him that made one want to go and stuff a fork into his throat but which one did not because one is civilised. He knew everything (allegedly) about all brokers, training organisations, software vendors, hardware vendors, specific asset classes and the way to trade them, internet resources at al. A thouroughly rude, unsavoury character all round with a probable metallic mental processing disorder. Now he cannot have gleaned this information from attending conventions and seminars, it is not anywhere in the overall public domain which leaves this and other internet forums. If you suspect someone on here who has more vitriol than the Klu Klux Klan or the English Defense league, be prepared to speak up about it. PM me if necessary, I will make sure their name is drilled into the contact lists as someone to avoid at all costs.

I guess every broker is good, regarding however what you wish to use. If you are beginner I'd suggest to practise autotrading - get a graps of what the market is all about and deff preffer a broker with no commission to use for it, right? well if you are a knowledgeable trader then for sure you would not be fishish around forums to ask for advise. :cheesy::LOL:
