Market commentary for 09/21/2006

Good day!
The FOMC decision did exactly what was expected, NOTHING. Other than some whippy market conditions right after the announcement it didn't move the market very much either. We started the day with a strong gap up and that brought the QQQQ to the trap pattern on the daily chart. This confirmed the expectations for the market that I pointed out last night. The SPY and the DIA also gapped above the previous daily high and that also brought the buyers out. We had a few nice day trades in the room based on the morning move up.

“A” from the watch list had nice gap up and we took it on the gap rule (above the 5 min high for day trade). That trade won’t be in the tracking records list but I will follow in the trading room.

After the FED announcement the market began to sell but not as strong as usual. It was more choppy or whippy selling so as a rule I do not trade after the FED announcement. I'm happy I didn't trade because we saw a nice pullback and a nice 15 min cup pattern form. The rest of the day the market stayed in a handle formation and that gives me a long bias for today, at least for the morning. For longer term traders I would use caution because the weekly resistance is still overhead. The daily charts look great, especially the QQQQ trap and that can bring a nice continuation. That also can be the situation for the SPY and the DIA which will bring us to the weekly 2t pattern. While we can not be sure of what the market will do today, we can recognize increase risk. For the reasons I explained above risk in higher so trade with caution. As usual I will go with the market.

I found a number of possible day trades. It is important to evaluate them after the market opens and see what action can be taken. I will bring some ideas to this daily list under "day trade possibilities". All of these ideas can be interesting only as day trades. Please don't over trade them especially if they set up at the same time. I recommend only to take trades that you really like and understand. These ideas are just for the morning.

I did not find very many interesting setups for swing traders this morning. My goal is to bring you lower risk, higher probability trades. The market is now is higher risk for new swing setups so the number of swing trades possibilities are fewer. I will continue to work for your long term success. So please understand why there are fewer trade possibilities.

Market commentary for 09/22/2006

Good day!
The market did pretty much as expected. The market was choppy in the morning moving from high to low. That move up trapped some traders, but then the market showed its respect for resistance and sold off considerably. Remember yesterday I mentioned that there was increased risk in swing trades because the weekly resistance was still there and could bring problems for the bulls. After the morning chop the market started selling for the rest of the day. We saw 3 selling waves on the 5 min charts and that brought the QQQQ to the 200ma support area. The DIA and SPY saw the 10ma daily support area. Looking at the charts you can see the 20ma is a big support for this daily uptrend. You can also see the uptrend line. Tomorrow we have some room to see continued selling to this support area. It is important now for the consolidation of the 15/30 min charts to signal a bottom. From this we can plan our strategies, whether we have more selling or a trend continuation. Weekly resistance is still over head and we must respect that. Today will see higher risk and it will be best to stick with intraday moves. Perhaps we can find an "own way stock" for a profitable trade.

Market commentary for 09/25/2006

Good day!
Friday morning’s action was in the line with expectations, and unfortunately wasn’t much for the trader like me. In the morning we saw the selling continue to the daily 20ma for SPY and DIA, which I explained in Friday’s commentary. This is a very important support area, and most of the time will hold 1st try to break it. The rest of the Friday’s commentary is meant for this week as well. From consolidation which started after the morning move down, we will see what we can expect for the future move. The consolidation started with the action at area lows, and for now that is favorable for the bears if you look at weekly charts for all indices (QQQQ, SPY, DIA), you can see the formed pivot bar of last week. When you add weekly resistance area here, you can identify with the charts for this week and not to expect easy days for swing long setups. Swing traders must use a caution for Monday because low risk setup indices need to have longer consolidation periods; at least for two days. Possibly, we will not expect breakouts before at least before Wednesday, which will be clear when you look at the 60 min charts. I want that consolidation show at least see the 20sma resistance area as a possible support for the move down. Of course, this is just an idea, but we first must observe Monday’s trading action. Also, Monday’s closing will show a clearer situation picture.

For Monday I expect a choppier day, more range action. In that situation, it is preferable to stick with faster trades, mostly scalp and day trades. At market open, I will go over % lists in regards to gap’n trap trades, which I will post in the room. Other updates will come via email.

Market commentary for 09/26/2006

Good day!

Well, that was a really whippy start of the week. On Monday, the market opened with a nice gap up, near Friday’s high resistance area, which almost turned the indices into a bear trap setup. The morning gap didn’t hold for too long and after 1str reversal period (9:45am) we saw strong intraday selling to the Friday’s low support area. I do admit that the market surprised me because I was expecting to see a consolidation longer than the 15 min “V” pattern. Next, I changed my intraday bias from short to long, especially after a 15 min C&H setup.
We saw 3 buying waves on the15 min charts and they brought the indices to the daily high resistance area.

The daily charts looked nice for another swing move up, but when I checked the weekly charts, I was hesitating with that possibility. Due to the weekly resistance area, I will remain in cautionary mode and trade with the half of the usual risk. Bias is on the long side for tomorrow, and I will follow consolidation on 30/60 min because after 3 buying waves indices need longer intraday consolidation before any low risk setup possibility.

So, generally for tomorrow, I hope the indices will form a consolidation day, which could bring us a higher possibility for a nice move up on Wednesday. Everything else will be just for day trade purposes.

This market continues to be high risk for swing traders. My goal is to bring low risk trades to my watch list so the numbers of trade setups are fewer than usual. One of the most important traits of a successful trader is patience and right now until market conditions improve it is best to be patient. I trade the same setups that I post so for both yours and my long term success I hope you will understand why I am being patient and hope you will be also. Remember, sometimes being in cash is the best trade you can make. My advice for Monday is: don’t over trade!!!!!!!!!!

Market commentary for 09/29/2006

Good day!

We finally started to see the consolidation or rest we have been looking for. We basically saw no change in the indices on the daily charts. On the 60 min charts you can see nice consolidations, but for the low risk setup we still need a longer rest. Usually the last few days of the quarter brings window dressing and today we should expect to see some. I expect a mixed situation for the day, window dressing, profit taking and slow Friday afternoon trading. All together that probably means choppy trading.
My bias for today is bullish especially during the morning. Market is still in a higher risk area for the swing trades. Open swing shorts didn’t have nice day yesterday and that is signally us of a strong market. There is no reason to fight the tape until we see a clear direction on the charts. Be prepared for another “day/fast trade” day.

Market commentary for 10/02/2006

Good day!
Quarter is done. Morning action didn’t bring the move up what I expected. Despite of that we saw very narrow range action. Most of the day wasn’t tradable for the style what I use. Since I’m a breakout trade and without the trend I don’t trade, the Friday morning action was good time for patience training.
After the launch break indices lost the 15 min triangle pattern and all broke down. The QQQQ was weakest in that action and after 15 min base we saw move down. Same was with the SPY and DIA. On the daily charts you can see that the resistance area hold last week move up. Indices still have the resistance overhead on the weekly charts and from my eyes that will hold that area for this week.
Because of that the swing traders are still in the higher risk market and that will be the case until indices won’t form the daily pattern. On the 60 min charts you can see that consolidation area are still holding and we didn’t get the short signal. So my bias for the Monday is mixed and right now I will stick with the intraday moves. I believe that the weekly resistance will hold but that not mean we can go right away with the shorts, because we can see the daily/weekly consolidation at high, and we can see selling from resistance. Anything can happen, but the right now we don’t have clear signal for the any direction.

Market commentary for 10/03/2006

Good day!
Yesterday the market opened weak and bounced from intraday support. The QQQQ and the SPY broke under the 60 min consolidation and the 15 min C&H pattern didn't hold which resulted in a strong intraday sell off. The DIA a much smaller index stayed in the 60 min range. Looking at the QQQQ you can see we have had 2 selling waves including Friday's action. I believe that we have room for another move down this morning. The QQQQ has support at the 20sma. Also 40 as whole number support. The consolidation on the SPY and DIA at yesterday's lows is the reason I will look for another move down unless the market opens with a gap.

On the daily charts you can see the DIA is the strongest index and is holding better than the SPY and the QQQQ. You can also see the support areas the indices will have in this correction to the daily charts. Remember resistance is now support. We still don't have a clear signal for our swing trading, so my risk will remain the same. Yesterday's volume was extremely light due to the holiday so perhaps the market will show its hand today.

Market commentary for 10/05/2006

Good day!
Yesterday we had a strong trend day despite my expectations that the weekly resistances will hold. Those individuals in the room saw how I followed the market action versus my expectations. We had a number of long setups and most have done quite well so far. ACLS, IGT, MHP, KMB, GGP, SPG, UDR, DRI, CTL, IAVI and LM gave us nice moves up. They are now overbought on daily charts and because of that I will look to protect our positions on them. Important to note I need to mention an old cliche or adage that "the market can become even more over bought."
I closed my position in KMB for the sole purpose of protecting some capital. The trade provided a nice r/r and I took profits.

I look for the market to continue to the upside in the morning because on the daily charts the indices have more room for that move. While I am bullish and expect more buying in the coming days we can expect corrections on the 30/60 min charts. With the strong move yesterday new swing setups will be higher risk and I will reduce my risk considering that possibility. All the indices made new weekly highs with the QQQQ and the SPY following the DOW with a nice increase in volume. This rally being called the "Bernanke Bounce" is being fueled in part to lower oil but mainly due to the stronger bond market and lower interest rates. Bernanke conceded yesterday the housing market is weak and that weakness will slow the economy enough that the fed will not have to raise interest rates at this time. As usual I will follow the market action which is the best decision for every trader.

Market commentary for 10/06/2006

Good day!

After the strong move on Wednesday we got a consolidation day. While nothing is a guarantee, this type of action is typical the day after such a move. We can see on the 15 min charts the indices spent most of the day in a range action. I was hopeful that range will hold since we could get a continuation pattern today on the daily charts. but unfortunately indices didn’t cooperate. That slight break to new daily highs will increase risk for traders. The indices didn’t get enough rest after Thursday strong move up for the low risk setup. I will still look for the correction, at least, on the 30/60 min charts
The QQQQ still has room to see the previous weekly high resistance area (42 areas) and with the SPY and the DIA action we could see another move up in the morning. As usual anything can happen. I will repeat no one knows how far any move will go, but we can recognize risk. And with that information we can use proper risk what is one of the biggest aspects to become a successful trader.
My bias for today is again bullish in the morning. I will closely follow open positions and for the new setups I will use half risk. The job report pre-market could have a huge impact on market direction. Today is Friday and with bond market closed on Monday I anticipate the only reasonable trading will be in the morning. The rest of the day probably will be sloppy and worthless for trading.

I did not find very many interesting setups for swing and day traders this morning. My goal is to bring you lower risk, higher probability trades. The market is now is higher risk for new setups so the number of swing and day trades possibilities are fewer. I will continue to work for your long term success. So please understand why there are fewer trade possibilities.
