IMPORTANT: Take only the opportunities that you really like and understand. Always enter a trade with a trading plan. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. There is a much greater chance of success in your trading if you understand the trade. That is very important. Taking just a few trades is enough to be a successful trader. Good day all!

I like to explain one example what I had last week on watch list. That is Loews Corp. (LTR)
LTR was on long list and had setup at 18th August 2006 above: 37.00 with stop under 36.70. I had 2 targets, first was at 38 areas and second at 40 areas. Under is daily LTR chart.

http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08182006ltr.jpg

You can see that we seen 1st target area and I closed that trade because of market action and commonly August trading action. With 1st target area I got nice risk/reward (2.66).
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/dwl082006.htm - for August
Those who follow me know that is for me main measure for the success. But LTR stayed on my watch list and after touched 38 areas LTR now forming another base on daily chart.

http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08282006ltr.jpg

So you can see on daily chart that second target area is still valid and for those who stayed in that swing trade still look very nice and they can move stop under daily base.
Those who closed trade as me, they can look for another setup above: 38.00, with stop under 37.80 areas and they can use it for daily continuation with target at 40 area, but also can use is as day trade with target at 38.50 area. That is still good risk/reward opportunity.

http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08282006ltr30min.jpg

On the 30 min LTR chart you can see day trade opportunity and on daily chart you can see swing opportunity.

This is example of swing trade opportunity, but that not mean that day traders cant use those ideas. Every swing trade chart has few day trades inside of swing move. That is very important for day traders because they can always use intraday moves.

Market commentary:

Good day!
A strong run up in the indices last week formed the bull flag consolidation pattern and touched the 10sma daily support area. Since the upside move was stronger than usual I would like to see more daily consolidation before any possible move up. If the indices try to break out on Monday then there is a high possibility that we will see a double top pattern on the daily chart. Because of that I would like to see consolidation action similar to last week until the 20sma daily support area moves up. Generally I like to have the 20sma as support on every time frame, no matter if it's the 5 min chart for a day trade or the weekly chart for a position trade.
Another scenario that we could see is a strong bounce from the 10sma daily support area to new daily highs. For hat scenario I'd like to see strong volume as support; however, that will be a higher risk situation because of the double top possibility mentioned earlier. For me this means I will enter swing trades with smaller lots and add if we see good market reaction.

Market commentary for 08/29/2006:

Good day!
Yesterday we saw action that I didn't like. The indices tried to break out from the daily consolidations (bull flags) too early for the low risk setup. You can see on daily charts that the previous high's resistance area held which will bring additional risk to the long side of the market. Because of this I expect more days of choppy intraday action. I mentioned this scenario in yesterday's market commentary; and as suggested, I opened new swing positions with small lots. Generally speaking, the indices didn't rest enough for a safe move up which brings too much risk for my style. This market is more for smaller time frame daytraders or scalp traders. Please keep that in mind for tomorrow as I expect more range action with more intraday weakness. As always however, I will do what the market tells me to do regardless of what I think should be happening.

Good day all!
I'd like to show another good risk/reward example that you have seen on the watch lists. This is the FINL trade that we had on 22nd August 2006.

http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08222006finl.jpg

On the daily chart you see consolidation around the $11 support area. FINL had a nice move down before that consolidation. The projected breakdown support area was $10. With an earnings report due on Aug 25th, the trade was closed after FINL hit 10.09 during the day and retraced. The setup was short under 10.92 with a stop above 11.22. The risk/reward ratio was ~2.3

http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08282006finl.jpg

Be sure to always consider the risk/reward ratio in all of your trades and how important it is for your long term success as a trader.

Good trading.

For now second setup going very nice!!!!

This is example of swing trade opportunity, but that not mean that day traders can’t use those ideas. Every swing trade chart has few day trades inside of swing move. That is very important for day traders because they can always use intraday moves.

Market commentary for 08/30/2006:

Good day!

Right at the open the indices started with weak action and an increase in selling pressure. However, Monday's lows held for QQQ, DIA and SPY during the intraday action, ultimately consolidating midday as
all waited the FOMC minutes at 2pm.

When we have a tight consolidation like we had yesterday before the FOMC minutes there is a high risk for a false initial break. I always wait to enter on the break following the consolidation after the initial break. You can see this situation on QQQ, SPY and DIA 5 min charts. Right at 2pm the initial false move was down with strong volume. Following that we saw a strong intraday move up to the high of the day resistance areas. Sure, the initial move might not be false, but again, it's important to note that in that case when we have a tight base, we have a high possibility of a false break. Therefore it's worth repeating, I will wait for the initial move and after the consolidation I will go with the market action.

On the daily charts we didn't see big changes. All of the indices failed to push through their resistance areas. I will stay with the same risk amount as I mentioned yesterday, ie., smaller lots. For a future
breakout I'd like to see intraday consolidation because the technical stop will be under yesterday's low which isn't a good r/r amount for my style. For me then nothing changes for today, I will trade with smaller risk than usual and I will add positions on the next 30/60 min opportunities.

This is important information because after the NR7 day (narrowest day in last 7 days) very often we will see a trend day. Now is questioning what direction. That is really hard to say now because I still can see a double top on the daily charts and I can see strong downtrend day, but also easily we can see strong move up. That will bring added risk in the morning trading. Most of the time when we have same situation like today, when we expect trend day, important is the 60 min high/low. And in what direction will break after 60 min that will be trend for rest of day. Of course that is all generally opinion, and situation what we had most of time, but that not mean that is rule. I will expect whippy morning action, especially if indices will open in range without morning gap. After long consolidation we must be careful of false breakout and because of that I will trade with smaller lots and after confirmation I will add my positions. I will watch that 60 min high/low and I will go with that. If we will have trend day in line then in last hour you will like to be in position because in trend days last hour can bring huge (extended) moves in to close. On intraday action I like to see indices at least above 15 min 20ma support if we will see uptrend move, or under 20ma resistance area if we will see downtrend move. So generally I will look tomorrow for trend day, but I won't go blind with that idea, I will follow market as usual.
