Market commentary:

Good day!
Yesterday we had a typical summer trading day. After intraday down trend at the start, the market fell into range action for the rest of day. That is the reason I continue to say it is important to trade defensively during the summer. The market will always be here and the most important thing is to remain in the game by not losing all of your trading capital.
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08022006qqqq.jpg

On daily charts the QQQQ remained above the 10ma support area and still looks to be the weakest of all the indexes. The SPY and DIA look stronger.
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08022006spy.jpg

On the daily chart SPY stayed above 200ma support area and DIA above 200sma on the15 min chart. Generally, daily resistances are still holding. Last week we saw that some of resistance areas were broken, and that areas are now the support areas. Now we have same situation.
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08022006dia.jpg

Market right now is holding in lot of daily support/resistance areas. I don’t expect a strong move in any direction during August. From my experience this is the worse month for trading. I will trade small and with very small risk over August.

Good luck trading today!!!!

Like to show you all one example what had in the watch list and the room.

N was long call at 07/18/2006 above 67.80, with stop under 65.47.

http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/07172006n.jpg Since that was the swing trade opportunity I didn’t have the exactly target. But I was look for 75 area. N did very nice and still looks nice. My plan was to close that trade at 75 areas and I did that, but people who follow my watch list got the every day update with trailing stop and final exit was at 80 whole number resistance area.
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08032006n.jpg

What I want to show in this example is the risk – reward. That is very important part for my trading style. You can see what the risk we had from the call above and what the reward we have now. On that way one good r/r (risk/reward) trade can cover few loss trades and at the end with my average 60-70% of winning trades I’m profitable. All new traders should think about that. Because of that we all technical analysts traders use patterns. Those patterns are our tools for low risk setup with bigger reward possibility

If anyone will have any questions feel free to contact me.

p.s. : apologies for English mistakes (working on it).:)

Market commentary:

Good day!

The market gapped down at the open under yesterday's low and that brought the possibility of daily trap. With that in mind I was looking for shorting opportunities during the morning. The market held the strong support area and reversed. From that point we saw strong up trend day. Even with today's action, looking at the daily charts there really isn't a big difference. That can see on the QQQQ, SPY, DIA charts.
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08042006qqqq.jpg
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08042006spy.jpg
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08042006dia.jpg

With the strong intraday move, the market came into an overbought area. Tomorrow I will expect more back and forth action. This is something we need after a strong intraday move. My bias is on the long side during the morning, but we will observe the premarket action and how the market opens. The monthly Job report is prior to the open and this usually influences the market considerably. Remember today is Friday during the summer so expect low volume summer trading. Maintaining a low risk profile is still recommended.

Good luck trading today!!!!

Market commentary:

Good day!
If you look at the daily charts of the QQQQ, DIA and SPY you will see some the resistance levels (daily moving averages) were broken last week. All of those resistance levels now become support.
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08082006qqqq.jpg

The market unfortunately for us is bouncing between support and resistance. So now we have the 20sma daily support on the QQQQ daily chart, the 100sma on the DIA and the 200sma on the SPY. The QQQQ is showing the weakest action between the three indices.
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08082006spy.jpg

I continue to hold the opinion that the month of August will see little change in the market. I will continue to be risk adverse, preserve trading capital and show patience until the market moves in a meaningful way.
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08082006dia.jpg

Yesterday we had narrow market action and the intraday (15min) 3rd try triangle did not work. I will continue to look for another slow day until the Fed announces its decision and 2:15 pm ET. I personally don't trade Fed decision as it is too easy to be whip sawed in the market. I will continue to look for day trade opportunities.

Good luck trading today!!!!

Hi,

Like to explain HNR what we had yesterday on the watch list. Those of you who follow my watch list can see that I use the patterns to cut risk (triangle, base, flag) for me risk/reward is big part of profitability. And HNR is nice example. After the great small consolidation on 60 min chart we yesterday saw break down... Those who stayed in it had nice surprise in the morning. HNR had gap down. I used today for target 11 areas because that is the 200sma daily support area. That is risk/reward 6.70. With proper risk HNR must cover several loss trades, and that is very important what can see on the tracking records what I send every day. Those who are interested for more can send me pm or email.

Market commentary:

Good day!
We had yesterday interesting day with intraday action. The market opened with the strong gap up above previous day high and that brought us to the bear trap possibility. CSCO strong gap in the morning helped NASDAQ with gap up. But unfortunately, after strong morning situation in the market didn’t hold as we want for the move up. Consolidation wasn’t nice, INDU start with weakness, most sectors didn’t hold well and the market started with strong move down to the Wednesday low. Most of the time strong gap like we saw in the morning will hold longer, but that wasn’t situation yesterday. OK, that was whippy intraday action. Take a look on the daily chart. We don’t have any bigger reaction. Still in the mixed support and resistance areas, so I will stay in the line what I told several time here. Use caution and trade small. My bias is down for tomorrow and next days, but easily can see the same choppy action on the daily charts.

Market commentary:

Good day!
I like too little talk about the risk. On the daily charts market didn’t change much. We still can see the range action between the support and the resistance areas. Every day the range is tighter and tighter. With that action trading will be more and more risky. That is normal because we always have higher risk without trend, and on daily charts right now we don’t have trend. Also we are in the summer trading and in the middle of August as worst month for trading (from my experience). I see every day a number of interesting charts, but they don’t going well as usual and because of that and because of market action risk is higher now. Every trader must recognize the risk any moment because that is one of the most important things to be successful trader. If you know how big or small risk you have then everything else is in your hand and you can decide will you take that the risk or not. For me now is high risk and I trade very small. Usually I trade mostly swings and right now swing trades not going as usual and because of that I use very small risk. For me it is very important to save my trading capital for later when we will see some move in the market, and I know that will come. So please be careful, and don’t overtrade. This isn’t the market for that.

I am always available via email if you have any questions.

CNI example

Apologies because of a grammar mistakes. Those who follow my work know that English isn’t my 1st language, but I’m learning. Hope that won't be a problem with following the CNI explanation.

I like to show how I scan for the watch list ideas after market close and what I try to find.

There is a number good trades what you can see from tracking records in watch list every day and from the charts you can see that is not the fake, but today I want to show in the example what could happen and it is on watch list for the Monday.

That is the CNI example. I had it on the Thursday watch list. I liked daily breakdown possibility.
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08142006cni.jpg

You can see nice move down on the daily chart. After that CNI is in the consolidation and $40 is obviously the support area. When I see on my after hours scanning that situation I mark that chart and then I go over my scanning screen to see the whole picture.

I have there the monthly, weekly, daily charts and the 15, 60 min charts. So I will see whole picture on the bigger time frames and the smaller time frames. The bigger time frames helping me with determination the targets. I can see if there is enough room for good risk/reward move without any support in the CNI example. On the weekly chart CNI have nice room for the move down. On the monthly chart the 20sma (simple moving average) is at the $37.50. That is the 1st support area what I can see on the bigger time frames besides whole numbers support areas. That is also in the line with the equal move support area what you can see on the daily CNI chart. OK now I have the target area, something what I will follow. Of course target isn’t rule. I will watch the market action and I will compare the CNI action with them and if wont be as I like to see I won’t blindly wait the target area.

Now I will go on the smaller time frame. Maybe I can find the intraday setup and that could cut my risk. If I will find it then I can use it as the day trade setup what can lead to the swing trade and in that case I have the day trade stop with the swing trade move possibility.
On the CNI we have that on the 60 min chart.
http://www.swingcharts.net/Ivica/2006/08142006cni60min.jpg

CNI is in the bear flag on 60 min chart, and it is right at the 20sma resistance area.. So now I can use the 60 min bear flag possibility for the swing move down.
For my style risk/reward is very important and the CNI example is way how I do it.

Market commentary:

Good day!
All stayed the same. Action was in the line with the expectations. On the daily QQQQ chart you can see scenario what I will expect. From that you can see that my expectations are more with the bear action and our open short trades (STLD, ADS, DD, BHI, LVS, UPS, GSF and UPL) going well for now. But I don’t think that we will see clear move down. I think that will be the choppy daily action with a lot overlaps. I won’t comment much the QQQQ, SPY, and DIA charts because you can see that is all in the line with expectations and without much of changes. If the market will see action what I expect, and that is a move down I believe that the QQQQ will make new daily low and it will see an equal move support area. In the meantime SPY and DIA will see the daily support area and that will be the daily double bottom pattern. I don’t know that will we see that market scenario, but market action right now build that possibility. For now this is just an idea what I will follow. For the next week is expecting to see another overlap market action. Same action as we saw in the week behind us.

I am always available via email if you have any questions.

Good luck trading today!!!!

Market commentary:

Good day!
I can just copy the market commentary from yesterday. On the daily chart we didn’t see any significant move, and intraday action stayed same. Yesterday market start with the strong gap up, but after the morning run market couldn’t hold that area and back all in the rest of day. We had the same situation last week and risk in market stayed the same. For today I don’t expect nothing different and I will continue use add caution on the both sides. I still think that we could see move down on the daily charts. As usual I will go with market action. This action is typical for the August. Everything is same, trade small and trade smart

Market commentary:

Good day!
Yesterday in the morning we had the same situation as at Monday morning. But finally that gap up yesterday didn’t see the strong selling after the mid day consolidation. The QQQQ on the daily chart broke above the 50ma and now have room for move up. That is good news for long traders; unfortunately I’m not too excited. The SPY and DIA still need to break previous daily highs what you can see on the charts under. Definitely my bias now is more on the long side, but I will stay with the same “August” risk for now. More focus will be on the SPY and DIA action at daily highs area.

Market commentary:

Good day!
After the two strong uptrend days I will expect today from market to slow down. I see the room for another morning move up, but after that market need the longer rest. That mean at least few days of the rest before we could see lower risk setup. On the charts you can see that the market have room for that move up. Open swings going very well, and same of them are in the daily overbought area and they need daily consolidations (rest), Keep that in the mind. So for today again it will be the best to stay with intraday moves and that mean better market for faster traders. I will look for the gaps in the morning and will follow open trades. Same action I will expect for the rest of week and very possible for the next one.

Market commentary:

Good day!
Yesterday's action was in the line with expectations. After lunch the market started to correct. All the indices are now in the overbought area and they need rest (consolidation). I will expect a similar type action during the next several days. Trading during a market correction is always higher risk and keep that in mind during the next few days. There will always be opportunities, but it is always less risk when you have the market support. It is now important to follow the market consolidation and from that we can expect the next move. It will depend on the pattern that will develop. For a low risk setup on the long side we need at least 3-5 days, and everything else until then I will treat as a day trade. Tomorrow is also option an expiration day. With that in mind I expect whippy intraday action. Remember tomorrow is still Friday during the summer so be careful and trade accordingly.

Market commentary:

Good day!
Hope you all preserved the trading capital over the Friday trading hours, because we had high risk trading day. The market opened with weak action and strong intraday selling pace. Over the noon after consolidations at intraday lows indices back to daily highs. But all that action was very risky and choppy and because of that high risk I was not much active. The daily charts need more rest before any low risk setup, and because of that I will expect similar situation at the start of the next week. On the daily charts you can see that indices have more room for move up, but without daily consolidation that will be mostly opportunities for the day traders and the scalp traders. So until indices won’t give us pattern on the daily charts swing traders will have harder time. Unless if we will be in “own way” trade.
