2% per day seems excellent to me. If it is consistent that is. You'd be a millionaire very quickly if you could keep that up. Why do you ask?

I've been going through my trading history.....worst month was £8k loss....best month was £39k profit....averaging approximately £1k net profit per day....this is all spread betting...a mixture of longer term trades and short term day trades.

I just wanted to know opinions as this is a solo sport!...its difficult to work out how one is performing amongst peers.....all I seem to read here is people consistently complaining about losing money.....

millions are not enough these days Calinor!!!

if you had been consistent like that for a long time, then its good. if just started not too long ago with 1k net profit per day.. probably NOT SO GOOD yet.

your making money, why do you really care what the performance of other traders compares to yours. average 1k a day is a very comfortable living so if you ask me your doing good, no need to be greedy now and try compare yourself to others which could affect your trading to try an better yourself beyond your abilities. its a recipe for failure.

Besides, 1% per trading day is so much higher than inflation etc. that this is of no concern at all.

Put 25% aside to grow (another) account, use 25% for your pleasure and with the rest pay axes and invest it (buy appartment, houses, stocks, whatever) to grow a financial base ;) In a year you will have a LOT more fundy on the account, live from a lot more and have may some nice payments towards a house ;)

just keep doing what your doing (unless thats risking 20% per day to make 2%).

I trade from £0.50p per point upto an absolute max of £5 per point, and risk on average £500-£750 per trade.....so that 1to 1.5 percent risked per trade....I refuse to move stops to keep losing trades alive.....

So at £0.50 per pip and £750 loss thats a 1500 pt SL. Thats mighty big :)

Potentially yes...you are correct....but thats on the extreme end.....and has never happened in any one particular trade!

If you want to talk about pip losses....average pip losses per losing trade are 72....which I think is reasonable.

Can I ask, what instrument and TF do you look at to warrant a 1500pt SL? Avg losing trade is meaningless without avg profit and hit rate.

Ok, so we've established you're risking 1~1.5% per trade. Your performance sounds pretty impressive so far.

How many trades do you have on at any one time and how often do you trade per day/week/month?

Rossini....I rarely use such a large (1500 pt) stop loss......I replied to you saying that potentially a 1500 point loss using my methods was plausible......

Anyway since you asked....a 1500 point stop loss would apply to trading:

HIGH GRADE COPPER, HEATING OIL, NATURAL GAS, NO LEAD GASOLINE.......etc......for these trades stake sizes have been small, since price swings can be large.
