Barjon,

Why do you keep closing them? Why???

I can't work out WHO you are trying to 'protect'....

Hi NT

For the rest of us, it would help make it more interesting if you stated which threads have been closed.

NT,
If you mean 'The Ledger - Ex Candlesticks' thread, Jon gave an extremely clear and concise reason for closing it. What don't you agree with in his explanation?
Tim.

Certainly seems to be an ominous pattern with threads closing... I wonder why?

"since this thread has become just a vehicle for the exchange of personal insults it is now closed"

The pattern is obvious to me and yet I feel as if I am the one losing out... So WHO is being protected?

When threads become more and more heated.....significant info comes to light....this info is displayed fleetingly.....then it gets the chop...you have to be very quick to see and record it...cos in an instant...it is gone.....if it's gems you want...you have to be here...

NT. If you read back through most, if not all of Soc's post you will find that they have all been closed. (Sorry if I am wrong)

So when you come back to this thread after reading all of socs' posts. (In about 2 years). You will see that there is an apparent theme throughout.

He waffles: or tries to baffle.

This has no place on a trading board. Waffling of baffling only serves to lengthen any post. More so if the author actually says nothing.

There are some of us on here that know who socs' is. So we either have long memories or are boring bastarrrds.

I personally do not agree with his teaching methods. Mmmm, though, locking someone up in a cupboard until they come around to your way of thought... now, maybe!!! That has possibilities :D

Trading is easy... It only took me a minimum of 10 years to get any good! And countless thousands of pounds...

..And do you know what? There is no easy short cut. It will cost you dear! You may not be able to measure it at this right now moment in time. But it may (Almost undoubtedly) cost you more than you bargained for.

I do actually have a soft spot for socs. What he imparted in the early years was enlightening. And I really do have respect for the guy. And in a way it is soooo easy to cloud everything up. Because, (I hate to say this) But most Are not worthy.

At the very least...People will give up at the earliest hurdle. They want it handed to them on a plate. Well; yes you can get this. If someone is feeding you 'right' moves; You will stay until a few losing 'moves' then you are off. The tutor being no good!.

Good post Options....I echo what you say...

As for my stance on Socco......fight fire with fire...I don't know any other way.

New_Trader has me down as Class Clown.... ...as you wish N T....but look very closely and you might just see who speaketh the truth..and who are the real Class Clowns

Herein lies the rub. if the threads are not closed when posts start becoming abusive then I gather it upsets the sponsors.

I for one cannot bear to spend more than a few minutes on ET where there is no censorship. Even though there is some worthwhile trading info the amount of abuse you have to wade through, is IMO not worth the effort.

So what do we want? A playground under supervision or a cage fight where someone gets continually kicked in the bullocks?

I don't have you down as class clown. Where did you get that strange idea from? Someone else thinks I have obvious connections and yet another thinks I'm a sucker looking for shortcuts! Now do you see why I don't trust what anyone has to say about other members here

rols,

No, not the sponsors, but many members who have made it quite clear that they want a reasonably civilised site free of the kind of abuse and disruption that goes on elsewhere. Good natured badinage is one thing, but I do try to halt it when it goes beyond that. Like my trade entries I probably get the timing wrong, but I do try

cheers

I, for one, agree with that position. I personally refuse to allow myself to get dragged in to a running series of personal attacks - not that I can recall being targeted on this board, but I certainly have been in other places. Given the annonimity these sorts of sites provide, it's quite easy to start lobbing bombs. The other users are just names, after all. I've seen similar things happen in the real world where teams in London and Boston working for the same company on the same product bickered about really stupid things (like spelling) mostly because they'd never met and were just names to each other.

I'm all for strong, intense debate. I love to see it, and to be a part of it. The process makes everyone involved better on one level or another. When I see someone starting to attack a person rather than their opinion or point of view, though, it makes me think they've decided they can't win the argument on the topic at hand. In order to save face (internally, if nothing else), they essentially change the subject and at the same time try to imply that the person on the other side of the debate is somehow less than them, thus reducing the value of that individual's statements.

The thing is that sometimes folks are just tossing stuff out there to wind people up know that by triggering an emotional response they've effectively put themselves in a superior position (again, at least to themselves, if to no one else). If we allow ourselves to get sucked in, we just feed their ego and encourage them to repeat that behavior.

That's my own little psychological analysis, anyway. Feel free to call me an idiot. ;)

Closing the thread, however, doesn't accomplish anything. The behavior doesn't stop; it just finds a new thread, often a "content" thread, and the cycle starts all over again, beginning with the disruption of useful discussion (then deletions, then more disruption, then transfers and still further disruption, and so on).

True enough, but if we avoid being drawn in to the personal back and forth and ignore those who launch them (leaving it to the mods to filter them out), we can short circuit the process and keep the good threads running with minimal disruption.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work, anymore than does trying to carry on a quiet conversation in the middle of a mob scene.

But then this is a well-worn discussion, and what can be said that's new?

Who knows, but if the topic isn't discussed again (and again) then there's no prospect of a resolution to the problem. Sooner or later someone will suggest something to overcome the problem. Let's get a little perspective here: if the mess in Northern Ireland can be sorted out, I'm sure this problem can be too! Oh, my glass is half full by the way.
:cheesy:

According to Soc speak....99.99 % of the readership are DUNCES .....now the question is..are you going to stand for it or not?...and why is it left to the minority to tackle him on these issues?

Is it so that the silent others can happily sit on the fence and be blamed for nothing ...up on high moralising...

The moderators view seems clear enough to me.....rudeness and polite rudeness will not be tolorated !
