I have a third/final interview with a prop firm tomorrow and wanted to know what are the expectations of how the applicants are dressed?

Suit. Always a suit. Doesn't matter if everyone there dresses in shorts and t-shirts. You are the one who is trying to impress, so you wear a suit.

Thanks. That is what I was told but I just wanted to confirm that was the right thing to do.

Edward Scissorhands constume.
Or just wear a suit....depends which way you wanna play it.
good luck

I knew I would get some good responses to that question but looks like suit is the consensus.

Damn foredog - beat me to it.

Defensive position - suit. V unlikely you get marked down for it. And you can always say you had another meeting that required a suit that day. Go another route and it's v limited upside, greater downside.

That said, the last time I 'interviewed' I was in jeans and a T-shirt, but I was on pretty sure ground in terms of who I was seeing etc (v casual place), and we had already had a few meetings etc. Much more informal.

it's an interview-why on earth would you consider wearing anything else.

talk about slipping standards.

p1sses me off.

Come on grandad - let it all out. What else is p*ssing you off today. Loud music? Yobbos on BMX bikes? The fact that mars bars were cheaper when you were a young rapscallion?

most things today as it goes. yawn-city in the markets. missed opportunity earlier and i suspect that is the day gone.

that goldmans thing i see has hit the mainstream newswires which is intersting reading.

You were just smaller.

On a serious note, one thing occurred to me years ago. All these chocolate bars etc - you get these promotions "now 10% bigger" etc. Then...what? Shouldn't someone put labels on after a couple of months saying "now back to normal size - had yer chance for 10% and you missed it". Implication is that they just keep getting bigger and bigger, ratcheting up in size.

Well anyone who knows even the first thing about basic compunding (and I hope that's everyopne viewing this thread for starters) knows that if the constant one way traffic in mars bar size IMPLICIT in that marketing strategy were anywhere near true, you and I wouldn't even be able to lift a bloody mars bar by now, never mind finish one....

It's like the chocolate rationing in "1984" - orwellian doublethink at it's finest.

only if you're a trader-for anyone leaving on planet earth it's just the way life is ;)

kinda half/half I'd say. I would never wear one now just around the office, but always have one in my drawers. Generally, internal meeting that I have arranged, odds are I won't be wearing one. External meeting where I'm trying to 'impress' / am on best behaviour I'd say 80% chance I will be wearing one if it's people I don't really know. If it's people I do know the odds drop dramatically.

But we're kinda casual here tbh. I have jeans, trainers and a designer T-Shirt on today. Fridays are pretty scruffy.

edit - so that's really no help is it? lol

I haven't worn a tie for possibly over 5 years, even if I go to a company presentation or something in the City.Although my ex-boss, who is very well bred (!) told me a couple of years ago: never wear a suit without a tie. Even that seems to have been dropped now. Most of the meetings I go to in the city it's sort of 50/50 or maybe even more in favour of tie-less.I must admit I would feel underdressed if I didn't wear a suit (say jacket and trousers). My office is in the country, well Crawley, although I wouldn't say we are country-brokers (no tweed jackets!). The other day my young compliance officer was wearing brown shoes and I said, half jokingly, i hope you don't wear them in the city and he didn't really understand. Are brown shoes still verboten? What about earings (on chaps) and tattoos (both), are they frowned upon in brokers offices?
Funny how things change: I can remember girls being improperly dressed for the office in trousers, slacks, culottes and maxi skirts (yes!) and being sent home to change.
