Which algorithmic trading books do you recommend?

Hi,

since this is my first post, I thought I'd start by asking which books on algorithmic trading are recommended? I've seen a few listed on Amazon but am at a loss.

Are you new to trading? Now, I'm not the most well versed person here, but the company I used to work for had a division dedicated to algo trading, and it didn't strike me as the sort of thing someone on the retail end could do by himself. At least, that was my impression.

Not only would you have to be a very good trader already, you'd have to be a capable programmer as well. I tried automated trading with a demo forex account and none of the per-fabricated strategies made any money. But, maybe I was doing something wrong, like probably because simply indicator signals are not mechanical and I'm not a programmer so I couldn't alter any of the routines.

But don't let me discourage you. If you can program and have a well thought out strategy, then go for it.
