I'm completely ignorant of anything Spread!

1) What is Spread Betting?

2) Is there a difference between Spread Betting and Spread Trading?

3) Can you only use these in the Futures Market or can you also use them for Spot Currencies?

4) Is this really another form of gambling

To answer the key question first.
Spread betting is gambling. You do however have some control over the outcome, unlike betting on horses & etc.
Have a look at www.deal4free.com or www.capitalspreads.com.
Their websites will give you the info. you require and with the latter a chance to see how it works with a pretend account.
Also follow this thread for more informed comments.

Since you are so very inexperienced and lacking in trading knowledge perhaps it would be kinder on your wallet if you used a demo on the likes of Capital Spreads.

Whilst practicing you would read all you can on the threads, look at recommended books, then one day try "spreads."

Start on general books on investing, then different types of investing/trading books.
One day you will settle on a method that suits you.

Don't buy "systems" (holy grails) because they don't work.
Short cuts - there are none.

If you are thinking of spending a £1000 or £3000 on a system then ask yourself why the kind hearted vendor would prostitute his golden goose among the trading illiterate!

Chartman and others post their methods free of charge; a couple of trainers on T2W hold courses on trading styles, however, unlike trendtrader type systems you have to make the trading decision. Having said this, I would leave trading courses alone until you have studied the market a lot more.

Keep asking questions by all means, but you can save an awful lot of question writing if you use the "search" facility on this board and the "search" facility over at

financial spread betting

Visit www.financial-spread-betting.com for a complete explanation on financial spread betting...

2) Is there a difference between Spread Betting and Spread Trading?

They are usually referred as the same thing - Spread Betting and Spread Trading - traders like to refer to their spread betting as spread trading because they don't consider it gambling and the spread companies refer it as spread betting to be able to offer a tax free service.

3) Can you only use these in the Futures Market or can you also use them for Spot Currencies?

For everything.

4) Is this really another form of gambling

If you call it gambling - I call it money making
