Dear Forum,

I was just laid off from my day job, and am not healthy. I am looking at learning to trade for a living. I have some experience, but need to demo trade for a while.

Does anyone know of a demo trading program that runs from stored market data, and allows you to trade when the markets are closed?

Thanks so much!

Hi Cburg - sorry to hear of your circumstances but I hope you will find a way through trading. Can't help you with your sepcific question but I would try to guide you towards getting a grip on the psychological aspects of trading. Especially the case if this might be your main income and a defining personal activity. The books by Mark Douglas are held up to be some of the best, and he was an actual trader himself. Don't delay getting these in favour of technical ability - there are plenty of traders out there who are their own worst enemies because, although they can read a chart or annual report with expert ease, they can't deal with the risk and losses.

I know you have experience so maybe you're already familiar with this, excuse me if that's the case, but maybe the circumstances are different now.

This is a good place to learn if you can stay in the game. Best of luck.

Cburg, Welcome to the site, sorry about your employment situation. It is tuff times for many folks out there.
Don't know any program in existence that you are asking about. There might be but I doubt the value during these times. The current market is so dependent on today's news that what happened yesterday has little value. Every day is a new day in the market place.
The market will move on what is thought to happen in the future. To get your crystal ball working to see the future will insure your success in the stock market. What companies bottom line will benefit from the effects of tomorrow?
Learning the lingo, terms and influence of world economics will get you off to a good start.
Keep us informed about your progress and questions.
Happy stock hunting.

Still the idea is good. If one learns TRADING, this is technical analysis or price action - but not news etc.

Running on a replay means one gets real ticks, slowly developing. And can train "after hours" to react to price action, and one can do so with real data.

Ninja Trader has market replay. As bad as it is otherwise, that is a nice feature.

3265650161803076351 22/05/09 08:17 BUY 10,000 Anglo American @ 1470p

Can someone explain the above for me?

I'm a novice in trading so I thought I try my hand at some virtual trading for starts, in this case, bullbearing.

The above is a trade executed this morning, what I don't get is this: AngloAmerican never traded @ 1470p today, so why the above price? AngloAmerican never traded below 1500p.

It seems the virtual trading sites' prices don't always mirror the real thing which renders them pretty much useless.
