Trump Presidency and the Consequences

Donald Trump Claims He saved $1 Billion On Air Force One. That’s News To The Military.

The president says he met with generals and Boeing for merely an hour to get an unbelievable discount.

President Donald Trump bragged at his recent Florida rally that after a negotiating session of merely an hour he managed to shave a billion dollars off the price of a new Air Force One. The only problem is that the Air Force reportedly has no idea what he’s talking about. (more)

Often with these kinds of purchases, some people at high office have little or no regard to cost.

If Trump is looking to cut these type of spending costs then that's good imo. Departmental spending should always look for value and cut waste.

I do think and feel the US military spending is just way OT.

I mean does it have to be the biggest Boeing with the greatest range, for Trump to run the country from a plane. That's just silly and it is probably debatable even if it's realistic.

In military operations one never relies on just one man. That kind of speel may make them all very special and hot but it's folly.

You want a delegated chain of command and when the President is travelling they hand control to another office on the ground.

So much balloney to spend 4bn on 2 jets.

What kind of scenario do they have in mind. Full nuclear warfare? What good will be the president up in the air? Just needs a bleeding phone.

Our own woman is spending more billions on boats loaded up with nukes that can't be fired in case WW3 starts.
How she expects to fight terrorism with submarines, I don't know. They should be scrapped.

I think we should scrap ours and just pay the Americans to defend us.

Win / Win scenario.

Work the special relationship (y)

The point, of course, should not be overlooked, that Trump yet again lied about something he claims he did but did not do.

Agree Db and know what you mean.

However, with these kind of government contracts, if suppliers like Lockheed and BAE Systems know costing will be coming under greater scrutiny, they'll not be able to take US Government and tax payers money for granted as before.

It is a move in a positive direction singalling out, future approach to public spending. (y)

That's not quite the way it works. Congressmen are re-elected in large part because of how they're perceived as benefiting their constituencies, and since we have a federal government, keeping the constituents happy is often more important than doing what's best for the country. Therefore, congressmen who represent states with weapons manufacturers, aircraft manufacturers, Army/Air Force/Marine etc bases and so on -- which is just about everybody -- will more or less give these entities whatever they want.

Does that mean Trump will also battle with his own party the senators and Congress?

His got his work cut out for him then.

He made some noises about drug company prices too but after initial small falls they are still rising.

Trump will make a lot of noise because it appeals to his peeps, but none of it will come to anything because he doesn't understand how this works. This is for all intents and purposes an exercise in mega-OJT.

Trump can't find any US trade surpluses. Here you go, Mr. President

President Donald Trump claimed Thursday that he cannot find a country with which the United States has a trade surplus.

The U.S., in fact, has a merchandise trade surplus with more than half of the countries in the world, according to the U.S. International Trade Commission. A trade surplus means America exports more goods to a country than it imports from it.

One doesn't have to be Einstein to work this out.

If half the World's wealth is in the hand of 6 US corporations and their owners then it means the US has benefited TREMENDOUSLY from globalisation which it led.

It's simply that the distribution of income is so badly skewed in the US, citizens get exploited by their own employers and Government regulating and managing those companies.

The fact that the desenfranchised is told this is due to Mexicans, migrants or external factors like managed currencies or bad trade deals is total RUBBISH.

Marijuana is a soft recreational drug that is less harmful than smoking and drinking with quite a few beneficial effects too.

Lack of analytical ability to distinguish class of drug concerned with what the real problem is and what the possible solutions are leading to lock'm all up response is not the best way forward that's for sure.

What are ALL these drugs? On one side tabacco and alchol is freely available as destructive as they are then on the other mother natures pain killer is criminalised. Then there are the drug companies pushing all kinds of drugs with numerous side effects at extortionate prices.

Unable to determine or do the research before setting policy is just bad practice. Look at the California experience.

"Go ruin your own country" you say... Inference being US is great and it is being attacked and destroyed from the outside. So scripted. You surely must be a politician with those soundbites. Learning from Trump!

So the argument seems to be based on wider choice of products, other than alcohol, smoking, prescription drugs, leading to more ways to place strains on prisons, healthcare, rehabilitation. Taxpayer funded.

The common link being, selfish anti social behaviour and unnecessary endangerment to others.

Brilliant policy that....where do we sign up !

Or ban smoking, declare a war on drugs, prohibit alcohol (oh, wait).

That's NOT what he said. YOU and the media are skewing his words around. It's no wonder Trump hates the "fake media". Give up on your American bashing agenda... you lost the election.

" I'm trying to find a country where we actually have a surplus of trade as opposed to a deficit."

-- President Trump on live TV

Not the same as the headline you posted. It's also on the video that is in the link. Try actually reading the links you post. It's making you look illiterate and I'm sure you are not.

Agreed on the gov't regulations, so President Trump wants to cut many wasteful regulations. (y)(y)(y)

Well I was more referring to controlling companies abusing system;

For example the food safety agency, hires from people who have worked or continue to have conflict of interest with such companies they are supposed to regulate with public health and safety.

One example is new body he has nominated to the Environment agency. I fail to see how such capitalists fighting regulation to clean up their own mess would want to pay for it or put in control mechanism to prevent pollution.

The person who will be impacted will be the little man not the big corporations or their management.

Also, arbitrarily removing two pieces of regulation and replacing with just one may sound good but without analysis it is a recipe for chaos and disaster imo.

So a white guy in an Olathe, Kansas bar shouts at two Indians, engineers, to "get out of my country" and shoots them, killing one. White House spokesman Sean Spicer says Friday that any loss of life was tragic, but it would be absurd to link the killing to Trump's rhetoric.

Right.
