My sisters pc stopped booting up so I pulled out the harddrive and put it im my pc to see if it was the windows install or other hardware. Still wouldn't boot up.

Before I reformat I want to save some of the data on the drive, photos and such.

When I boot up from my drive, I can see her drive in my computer and can also see all the main folders but when i try to get into my documents i get a permission denied message.

Is there a way around this so that I can save the data?

Your new account on the new system needs to take ownership of the files on the new secondary drive:

1. Sign in as administrator.
2. Right click on the secondary drive and choose Properties.
3. Security tab.
4. Advanced button.
5. Owner tab.
6. "Change owner to" box. Select the account to own the files.
7. Click OK.
