Got cought in the market sell off as I did not have time to close position in time so i lost a good chunk of the profit. I am annoyed . On the positive side i was around 80% hedged which kept me in the profit even though market went against me . All in all i am not happy . It is not matter of win now, It is matter of getting cought and feel just P***D off. Grrrrrrrrrrr

I am mentoring some one from this BB 2morrow so i might not be able trade as much as I want as once I start on Technical analysis I cannot stop yapping .

Grey1,

What caused you to miss the sell off ?

Also on a previous post you once accidently hit "Sell" when I think you wanted to Buy or vice versa as I cannot quite remember. Can I ask do you place your trades by mouse click or by short cut keys ?

It is a good idea to set up the short cut keys as it is much quicker to open and close trades once you have done so and also more difficult to make a mistake.

Paul.

Paul ,

I have never used the short keys . Once I learn some thing I find it difficult to change ( old dog no new trick ). The reason I missed the sell off was that I had 4 positions all hedged with different stop order in force and I realised that one of the stops was taken out with out me noticing it. As a result I was looking for another short position to hedge which would be near the upper VWAP but did not have the appropriate signal . Mean while My position sizing had to be readjusted and before I realise where I was market sold off . Under normal circumstances I only have 2 positions hedged which is much easier to control . Today I had 4.

Grey1,

From the top, your posts are excellent and very informative.

A couple of questions if you don't mind :

1. Is your charting from Tradestation ?
2. What Brokerage do you use - any comments ?
3. Do you always use Smart Routing due to the programable nature and liquidity of the stocks you trade ?
4. Do you even subscribe to L2 or Total ?

Cheers.

1) yes it is TS
2) I have two brokers but maninly use Interactive Brokers . They are good but I am told Genesis is better .
3) I used L2 for four years but not any more.

I be back in about 2 hours if there is any nore questions.

JERRY OLSON'S
"POINT" OF VIEW NEWSLETTER
DATED APRIL 30TH 2006
UH OH BARRONS COVER DOW 12,000!

Hello out there all my trading buddies from around the world. Each time I write that first sentence it's becoming more and more a reality since we are so diversified now as more traders enter our small band of daytraders each and everyday. I thank you all for being a part of this interesting group. We are all in this together day in and day out, following the ebbs and flows of the markets. Well just as soon as I got so comfortable with the Fed Chairmen's utterance of we may "pause" at one or more meetings, along comes Barrons front page cover DOW 12,000. Now there's a warning shot if I ever heard one. The fund managers are all in sync now thinking nothing is going to stop this market from getting there. That makes me wary of the pending top forming sooner than later. Heck they'll be out there promoting the John Q Public to get in to this rally before "it's too late"! My guess is, it probable is too late now. Look I am certainly not a doom and gloomer as you all know. My glass is "always" half full. I am bullish for the most part because I do see the end of the rate hike cycle coming very soon and to my way of thinking that was the single most important drag on the whole market. But please let me warn you all. While Fed Funds Futures collapsed last week on the Fed's all clear down from a 65% chance of a rate hike in June down to 25% now after the "pause" statement. I want everyone to set hard stops in all your long term portfolio's on what I perceive now as a run for the roses toward the FOMC meeting May 9th. Here's what I am suggesting. If we do in fact get this 1-2 week rally higher I want you all to place hard stop loss orders underneath all long term holdings in your IRA's 401K's and any longer term stock portfolio's. Let's play this safe for now till we see the markets reaction post FED. I do not want to sound like an alarmist since I think all and all my internal indicators on Point & Figure are all solid and looking good right now. In fact in the OTC area the Hi Lo short term indicator reversed back up last week and so will the NYSE Hi lo. It's hard not to see a potential for a blow off top coming post FED. Look the street might pop the whole market for 1-2 days and then "sell the news". That could be a hard correction back down to much lower numbers if this actually happens. It simply means let your winners run but with a red light caution sign behind them all the way. Folks taking a profit never hurt anyone, it's losing that profit after making hard won gains that really is a shame. Do not let it happen. The use of stop loss orders comfortably underneath your core holdings is a way to do this. Or you could simply buy "insurance" since it's the cheapest it's been in years. That would be the use of Put Options out about 3 months on selected stocks to protect you from any meaningful move lower. I have no crystal ball my friends but I never like it when everyone is "leaning" to one side or the other predicting and speculating DOW 12,000. For me that's the first sign of trouble. You may be laughing now but trust me it wiped the smile off my face when I read it. Magazine covers, Newspaper articles and the like are always WRONG! Heck you can use Business Week as a contrarian cover anytime of the year. Just trade the exact opposite of that cover.

have a nice evening all...

Cheers.

As Grey1 is busy today I may be able to answer on his behalf some of your questions:

1) From earlier screenshots it appears that he uses Prosuite 2000i which is a variation of TS2000i
2) He uses Interactive Brokers (IB)
3) Based on previous conversations I have had with him, I think he always uses SMART order routing
4) Based on recent posts, I think that he no longer uses Level II although he did use it in the past.

If anybody fancies going down this route(I don't, still have problems with the VCR) I see there is a Prosuite 2000i going on eBay ending in 5 hours time.

I have been following that auction and to me it looks like a scam. Have a GOOD look at the sellers feedback, and make up your own mind, if it was me I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft BP, but hey I am no expert.

rols, I know this might sound like a silly question but what do you mean by "I don't still have problems with the VCR" ?

1) yes it is TS
2) I have two brokers but maninly use Interactive Brokers . They are good but I am told Genesis is better .
3) I used L2 for four years but not any more.

I be back in about 2 hours if there is any nore questions.

Grey1

Important Question for Grey1,

I have been studying the excellent previous threads on Vwap.

Since tweaking via L2 was an important integral part of your original strategy could you explain how you have been able to eliminate it from the procedure?

Grey1, I could never use TWS for scalping in todays markets. I have had an IB account for a few years, and think that the TWS is antique. It is greatly improved with some of the front-ends that are available, in particular the one from Henry in France, but having to press more than one button to enter or exit your trade is just too slow.
The Laser layout that we use is based on simple one-click entries and exits. You will probably have the demo of it setup today, so I would be very interested to see how you think it compares? I just keep my IB account now as a backup, as I believe any serious trader should have backups of everything that can possibly go wrong. Even access to his/her account!

Sorry for the bum steer. The only things I buy off eBay are books and CDs. Being a Mac die hard I don't ever buy or find used software. The comment about the VCR - video player - was basically a light hearted comment that I have enough problems programming a VCR let alone going near trade station Pro suite. Very much a string and crayons trader me....
