Trading NASDAQ stocks with Jerry Olson & Ian Hodgson

I am in the process of reading the excellent past threads on VWap.
Using this strategy do you take much notice of breaking news stories, earnings releases or what the major indices are doing, which is something the momentum/volatility guys rely on?

Samtron ,

All the news, earning releases upgrade / down grade are ALL in the price ( this is the foundation of technical analysis ..information LEAKS and gets into market no matter what ) .. if you see a price breaking out when the NEWS is released is because all the naives want to take the part of the cake as a result price SPIKES. The best way to play earnings or other news related stocks is to have insider knowledge and sell into the news to naive traders..

As far as market direction is concerned ,, yes if market is in postive territory I try to be more long than short and visa versa..

Grey1,

In reference to a previous post you made where you no longer use Level II for determining entry into a trade, are you willing to discuss how you determine entry points ? From what I can see you have now completely automated your signals and if this is the case then presumably what you are doing is taking positions when your automated signals tell you to. So am I on the right track here or are you using some other approach ?

Rofl bramble my man .. You answered your own question .. Numbers can be coded ... it make it much more objective . On top of that you cannot keep chasing what stock is in OB or OS situation all the time .. Code the number and get a signal.

Dear Iraj

i am awed by your wonderful knowledge and spirit to help others. It's so gratifying to find pro traders willing to show all types of traders their special weapons fighting the good fight each day.

The room just loves you being there and so do I. Especially me as i can enjoy the trades and the funny quips you make all day long

Thank you for all that you do here on Trade2win and in the real time room

it's all my pleasure

The Next Best Move Is Up

To all traders

i will post some charts soon to show everyone that the next best move is up to new 52 week highs on all indexs ahead of the FOMC meeting May 9th. MY "guess" is 1 and one and then move to neutral.

despite the bonds current number and the price of crude which is an accident waiting to happen i love it as a short big time, this market is going a lot higher.

i hope and trust you will be on the right side of this next move.

have a nice evening all

Morning Grey et all

Thanks a lot Grey appreciate that.

I wanted to show the traders here exactly what i saw yesterday on the RMBS trade at 38.00 as the stock was deeply oversold. As a counter trend trader i am always looking for bullish divergences on my indicators i use the CCI(20) and the ADX (14-14).

so here's the set up for everyone, i will be writing a lot more on this type set up next month in my next folow up Klab article. Hope this helps some traders out there.

The FED chairman speaks this am up on the hill for congress, futures are falling hard ahead of that speech.

will he be dovish or hawkish, we shall see.

have a good trading day

Hi Paul
I do not want to preempt Grey1 response in anyway, but even if the original rule regarding Level 2 status still applied, perhaps it could still be possible to programme the go/no go parameters (eg If more than say 2 MM within so many points of the inside market then nogo.) I am probably talking nonsense here but I thought it may add to the discussion.

these are todays trade on BRCM two awesome signals from the mighty VWAP Engine ( one just before close yesterday and one today )

This is the final deal .. Market went through consolidation and no matter what I did I could not get a good lump out of the moves. Never seen such a consolidation . My max win at some stage was over $2100 but I did not take what was on the table . Well silly me . I never learn and this is the way life goes . I made too many errors to day such as covering @ BID price instead of ASK and my limit order never got filled and trade went against me . pressed the buy instead of the sell and even poured tea over my hand. On top of that IB was playing up while i was in trade . So every thing which could have gone wrong went wrong . WELL THIS IS TRADING ..I be back later to discuss few technical issues on TIME FRAME SELECTION .

Iraj,

You still easily made over $1700 in profit which on a bad day is excellent by any standard.

Todays Bullish Outside Reversal Sticks

If traders would please check all the index charts you will see what i call a Bullish Outside Reversal Stick. It means we took out yesterdays lows and then came back and took out yesterdays highs as in and extra special Bullish Engulfing Bar.

Here is the chart of the NDX....it and all index have chart with bullish implications.

Btw fwiw we are right on track for new 52 week highs everywhere

Iraj,

You still easily made over $1700 in profit which on a bad day is excellent by any standard.

Paul

Yes, and even better, without taking much notice of L2  :devilish:

I have a quiz for all the 50 000 traders in this room . Hope this generates some useful insight into the world of trading and technical analysis.

IS THERE ANY TECHNICAL ADVANTAGE GAINED BY TRADING IN A PARTICULAR TIME FRAME SUCH AS ( DAILY ,60 MIN , 10 MIN, 5MIN , 1 MIN ) or are they all a ROULETTE TABLES WITH JUST DIFFERENT DIAMETER ? ( ignore the commion Charges).

I particularly invite MR CHART to contribute ..

I'm not sure the following answers are what you intended by the term 'technical advantage', but I prefer shorter time frames because:
1. The success or failure of a strategy will become apparent much sooner with the more frequent trades.
2. Stops wil probably be placed more tightly, reducing risk and so permitting increased trade size.
3. Potential to exploit more points in a day's move. (i.e. catch the up and down fluctuations, not just the overall move)

There is no technical advantage in trading one time frame over another. There is a financial advantage in trading the lower time frames. In that you are positioned to trade more frequently. Accumulation of smaller profits more regularly compared with larger profits less frequently provides faster capital growth. Even allowing for the higher relative cost per trade and discounting any discounting as trade volume reaches professional levels, you're better off financially trading the shorter times.

Longer time frames tend to be more meaningful imho and in day-trading they can be used to confirm what you might be seeing in a shorter time-frame.

I take your point Chicken Curry and concur. Trading using multiple time frames for wider information view, confirmation and timing is a necessity, not a nice to have. But I interpreted Grey1's question in a strictly academic fashion - i.e. if you have only one time frame is there a technical advantage in which specific time frame you use? It is within that context I responded as I did.
