I liked the free videos, so I spent the few dollars needed for the Special Reports bundle (3 for the price of 2, i.e. $18 - I've spent much more on trading books). It does repeat some of the same stuff that's in the free videos, but there is more, and in any case, nice to have this stuff in a form you can keep.

I don't suppose I'll be buying the full course though :)

Actually, having now seen all of the 5 free videos, I would say:-

If you already have a firmly established trading plan and system that you are comfortable with and which is winning you more money than it is losing, then you don't need him, or anyone like him; go forth and multiply money in your own sweet way.

If, on the other hand, you are not sure what system to use, or don't really have a plan, and are not sure where to start (perhaps you are new to the business), and/or, you have a system or plan, but it's losing you more money than it's winning you, then you might do worse than take a look at his 5 free videos. It is certainly a slightly different way of looking at some things, or it was to me.

If you do consider buying his full courses, then there is a special discount available at the moment for "graduates" of the 5-video free course; quite a significant saving actually.

No, I am not on commission, to him or anyone else, and never will be.
Just giving an honest and personal view.

Save your money - I purchased all his materials & could not get the e-books to open due to a anti-pirating scheme. The vendor refused to help me. All the info that was covered in the courses can be found on the web, let alone on this site...Just my 2cents

If you could not get the files to open, how do you know that it is all covered on the web?
Yes, everything is probably out on the web somewhere, but how is the non-expert able to distinguish the wood from the trees and the wheat from the chaff?

You could try phoning Barry Burns (he gives out his number). I think you are in the USA, so it should not be too expensive to do so. (He is in California). He seems like a helpful sort to me, so if you can convince him of your bona fides, he might be able to assist you.

I said I purchased his courses. The info was presented both in video & locked e-book format. That's how I know the info could be found elsewhere. I don't know what the extent of your trading knowledge/experience is, I'm sure you'll agree that just about all info for sale is just a re-hash of commonly known indicators/trading methods. Not saying there isn't good stuff out there, it is, but it's rare. Just have to sift thru the chaff to get to the wheat. I did talk to Barry Burns personally & he could do nothing regarding difficulties of the files(the e-books).

I see, so you could get the video files to open, but not the E-books? Is that correct? How long ago was this and which courses did you actually purchase?

The videos and documents (PDF files) are all individually wrapped up in a security wrapper, which needs an unlock code. For any given course, the same unlock code unlocks both the videos and PDFs. Or was not that your experience?

My total trading experience is a bit less than a year I suppose, but that consists of about 6 months fairly intensive trading, followed by a several month complete break, during which time I forgot a lot of what I had learned, plus the market conditions seemed to have changed pretty radically (pre and post credit crunch, you might say). So my learning curve getting back into it has been pretty steep and I've been glad of any help I can get. Yes, some of his stuff was familiar to me, but other stuff was new. And even the old stuff was presented in a sensible and very clear manner. Even if all the underlying systems & methodology isn't unique, or even the "best", I would say as learning material, it's actually some of the best I've come across, i.e. he's a good teacher. (Good traders do not necessarily make the best teachers; good teachers may or may not be good traders). (I know "those who can, do, those who can't teach" is the old cliché - it may be true of some teachers. It is not true of all teachers.)

Don't you have consumer protection legislation in the USA?
I would have thought that if you paid for something, and (in effect) didn't receive it, you would have a legal right to your money back.

In addition, on his site, he offers:
stock market trading and forex trading strategy - Products_Course_1

"3 MONTH GUARANTEE:

Enjoy my 90 day no-questions-asked 100% money-back guarantee. Back test it or paper trade this method on any market and any time frame for 3 months and prove it to yourself!"

Did you avail yourself of either your legal rights, or his money-back guarantee?
If he refused to honour this, you have his address and phone number.
Presumably you could take him to court.

Regards,
M.

Yeah the anti copying software is a pain, I still can't get it to open on my Windows 7 machine, however it plays absolutely fine on my old XP laptop.

Sure the info is all out there, if you want to spend a lifetime trawling the web piecing it together.

I think Barry's course is great, it basically is a system and a very good, logical and professional one at that. It basically consists of taking trend retraces, with confirmation from stochastic hooks, I'm only half way through the first set, but I'm getting loads of light bulb moments every time I watch a new video. Also Barry is very responsive and takes the time to answer personal emails thoughtfully.

I've been trading a year or so and have lost a ton of money using flat S&R and other amateurish approaches to analysis, I feel that the time has come to get systematic and TopDog gives me a structured learning framework. As you can probably tell, I really rate the TopDog material and I will be investing in the intermediate version in due course.

PS. I'm not a paid shill or on commission, just an impartial reviewer, who feels strongly enough to post an endorsement.

Just a quick update, I solved the Windows 7 problem by downloading GOM media player.

Also an update on the TD methodology, I've constructed a decent trend continuation set up out of it and am in the process of testing it's statistical edge.

Bottom line is that Barry's stuff is better than many of the much more expensive systems on the market. (IMHO DYOR).

It seems to be getting sold on eBay without issue. Perhaps it's a 2nd hand copy that is for sale which has been pre-authorized?
