Watched all four now. Really, really fascinating. Ironic that Goldsmith was more or less right, towards the end of his life, even though he was one of the ones to help create the system he'd grown to fear.

If my reading of the Roman letter copyright date was correct, that was made in 1999, 2 years after the New Labour government was elected, and when the stock market was still booming. It intimates that some Labour politicians at least were uneasy at the continually booming market, but of course they weren't going to kill the goose that laid the golden eggs.

....and the rest is history.
