t2w being trashed by religious threads

I'm beginning to feel this site is being trashed by religious zealots instead of the usual spam 'n scam trashers.
I've got no objection whatsoever to threads about religion, but this is going to extremes.
Isn't it supposed to be a trading site leavened with a bit of general chat, rather than a home for the religious extremists?
It is doing t2w no good at all when new people come along and see the site is being swamped with pseudo-religious claptrap.

I don't know about that Mr. Charts - I enjoy a little time-wasting in The Foyer, that's what its for, and some of the threads over there are very funny.

Of course, I'm still waiting for our esteemed theological adviser to get back to me with details of what is the mark of the beast - if it turns out I've got it I will be vexed - and, lo, will probably wreak havoc and plagues upon all the lands and maybe smite the money-lenders.

I have found many of these threads about religion quite tedious. My solution has been to use the thread tool "Ignore this thread". This means that I can still read the trading threads by the posters concerned, but the ignored threads don't enter my perception.

There is however a more serious aspect to this that I think the moderators need to consider. Under site guidelines there is one that states:

1.7 Posts or threads which knowingly lead to overly strong negative and emotional responses ('trolling') are not allowed.

Now the nature of religous threads could (but not necessarily) fall foul of this guideline, if they start to cause offence with certain sections of the readership on account of their religous views or lack of them.

Furthermore there is another guideline:

9.4 In exceptional circumstances, and at the discretion of the site moderators, members may be immediately and permanently banned from the website without any prior warning. Such circumstances include, but are not limited to, sexual harassment, personal abuse towards another member, racist comments or blatant advertising

This in itself does not mention religious inflammatory remarks, although in certain cases some religious discussion could (again depending upon content) be regarded as racist.

In any case I think the site ownership should consider specifically adding something about religious intolerance into 9.4.

Absolutely right....!! And it always seems to be the same few that keep doing it over and over again, ( You know who you are.. ) pumping s%!t in the thread and starting religious hatred here on T2W , some even being forum moderators/guides! Stupid Pr!£ks!!!

Lets not forget that it was a religous thread that was voted 3rd most popular in last years T2W awards. You can only assume that these types of thereads are popuar amongst the general readership. I find them no more offensive than threads by T2W forum advisors pimping their 100% return per week expert advisors, which are equally popular.

zups,
I suspect fcta's 3rd place was because people found his thread funny :)
The current fanatical threads are not at all funny, or at least not funny to me.
One type of zealous non-trading threads becoming so prominent on a trading site is inappropriate. There are other sites for that sort of stuff.

charlton,
Cracking good post !

OK - can I start posting threads about bell curves, IQ tests amongst our darker bretherin & the theory that people of African descent are less intelligent than us whiteys ?

Just wondering but I would guess not.

What about my feelings about the Jews running the world, Hitler being right, Reptilians building the pyramids or any other typical board fantasy ?

Why not just call it what it is ? Some psuedo-religious nutjob with a hard-on for teaching the boardies about Jaysus.

Let's face it - you'd have to have a PC shoved up your a$$ to see that this crapola is nothing more than one person attempting to dominate the board with their views. It is even quite likely that his hard-on is for the board itself and these views are nothing more than intellectual masturbation to that end.

Anyway - if that's OK - can I bring a full on race-debate to the board ? How about a debate on the age of consent. Isn't everyone OK with 10.5 for girls & 9 for boys ?

It's your board - please be a little savvy & see that the topic chosen to derail a section of the board was chosen because you feel uncomfortable 'censoring' that area.

Censorship and 'getting rid of children' are not the same thing at all.

I whole-heartedly agree with your sentiments, Richard.

I was going to start a thread about how T2W (and owners) sees its position amongst the other trading websites. Because the kinds of recent religico threads that are allowed to proliferate are putting a rather dubious image of T2W and its members into the virtual world.

By all means have a light-hearted banter in the Foyer about all kinds of extraneous subjects, but the current plague of threads are an utter embarrassment.

Options needs to be taken aside (or cast adrift into the wilderness) and told to take his religious views to any religious websites, I am sure there are many.

Also, I think the mods should merge these threads into one thread, as its essentially the same old subject.

Weird thing is, I have been chomping at the bit to add my usual Dawkins/Hitchen/Harris (sarcastic) rejoinders, but my resolution to reduce my extraneous postings to T2W to useful posts only, has prevented me!

Either way, have a great trading week.

Fair points, there does appear to be an ever increasing number and that is not what this site is about although I admit that the occasional one I do get involved with. I will bring this issue up with Admin this week.

hi guys

I'm in two minds about these threads. I agree that they are not at all appropriate on a "trading" site but they are in the Foyer which is there for talking about anything not trading related.

Mods views are being canvassed at the moment and we'll decide soon. fwiw no-one has yet felt strongly enough to report any of the posts.

cheers

maybe thats because no specific individual post is specifically offensive or outrageous. its just that the aggregate of all those posts are a cause of concern and embarrassment.

specifically, its the multitude of threads on the same subject, albeit in the Foyer.

EDIT: for example, if someone started several threads, all about a new Forex Robot, but each thread was slightly different, eg, "Great new FX Robot: 100% a week returns", and "Has anyone tried this new FX Robot", and "New FX Robot that makes money while you sleep"; these are different thread, but if they are about the same FX Robot, Mods would see through it as a spam attack.
I see no reason to treat the recent spate of options threads any differently, and should be merged into one.

Anyone know what a brimstone actually is ? Just in case I need to be on the lookout for one...

Gentlemen and ladies. Now this I do find very, very funny. You have started a thread or two about some of my postings being in the 'limelight' and not fit for a trading site, and the threads of YOURS have brought further attention and pushed my threads further into the limelight! Isn't that ironic? The fact that God has been mentioned makes a lot of people uncomfortable and they don't quite know why. There is a simple solution. If they offend you. Do not look at any of my posts in the foyer! How easy is that eh? I am not breaking any guidelines. I am not having a 'pop' at anyone. I do not insult anyone, (unlike some members here). There is no 'flood' of threads. All threads are different and not as a comment above that they are all the same. I have some questions by members that are waiting to be answered. They will be. If my threads were about John Terry and his affairs off the field or would he keep his captaincy, or about the bank manager that nicked a million quid and got off or indeed even a hamster and its preferred method of travel and was the royal mail quicker. Or indeed who will be the next prime minister. Then no one would have started a thread about me. I have given you one solution. Don't look at my posts. Another is to use the ignore button. Don't look in the foyer. No one is forcing you to. You are all adults and can make up your own mind can't you? Talk of banning me or restricting my posts because YOU. (Yes, you reading this now) don't like or agree with them is laughable. Ban me If I start a thread on Ginger haired people and all of them should be shot or anything similar, because that is a personal attack of a racist nature. But pleeeease, just because a few of you are upset. Don't view. It is that simple. Plus you may stop people viewing who actually have an open mind and want to look into the truth. Ban me? Who's next? Are my posts in the foyer any worse than the continual bitching and back biting that normally destroys a thread?

Options - have you considered starting your own board to see exactly how many people are interested in what you write ?

Otherwise, your arguments are typical strawmen with no merit.

Re: Mark of the BEAST!

There is no 'flood' of threads

Sorry John but starting 5 threads in just a few days with all the same basic subject area is what is concerning members. When fcta had his views to give, he did so in one thread and although it was subject to criticism by others, he responded in the same thread. This is a trading site and not a site for the evangelisation of your religious views. I say this as someone who is happy to contribute to the types of threads that you have posted but starting thread after thread is taking it too far in my view.

I agree that all of these could be put into one thread and that way when members log on and click on "View New Posts / Threads" they don't get bombarded with five threads all about religion.
